If the limiter screws on your rear mech are set correctly, it won't go into your spokes Wink

I agree but Ive seen the limit screw make a small "divot" where it lands inside the derailleur and over time,.if not checked it can allow it to travel *just* enough to let it shift past and onto the spokes.

stop and compare the prices of *whatever* Rr derailleur you use and what that wheelset is priced at?! Then remind yourself that *both* the derailleur *and* the wheel gets damaged in that situation.hmmmmmm? I even have a small road spoke protector *hidden behind* the cassette to prevent chain wedging on my favorite hand built(by me) wheelset.

in my case, the mech would cost more than a few spokes and a rebuild....

what mech on which bike of yours? The Scott with the XT mech? If so thats a cheap one 80-100$.I have an XO in Redwin(220$ retail) on my SX with a handbuilt (700$ retail)Velocity Deep V's w/ 14/15/14 DT Comp spokes on a Rr Specialized Stout hub(by DT) and a DT Hugi fr. My Trek Fuel 9.8 has an XT Shadow Rr(110$ retail) and a Bontrager Earl wheelset (369$ retail,.exactly the same as the Big Earl set, just different graphics). And usually,.like I said,.BOTH the *mech* AND the wheelset suffer damage. Most times I see the spoke nips get PULLED thru the rim and it trashes the rim. Unless you just use washers behind the nips to keep them from pulling thru again.

fair enough, i've never had the nipples pulled through the rim before, then again i tend to set my gears up so that this doesn't happen... But the rear wheel on my scott is pretty cheapy anyway.
