the 450 is an amazing bike, i love mine. I very nearly went for the demo but a 135mm back end and a 73mm bb shell put me off, my xc bike has the same

What is the reasoning behind your statement? I almost bought a TR450, but it uses a chain, and so does my xc bike. A demo rear end is plenty stiff, and by using a normal BB width, you get a much better pedaling position (not bow-legged like the wider 83mm bb shell. Specialized has waaaaay more R&D money than Transition, and they decided to go with 135mm spacing. The demo has a 6mm offset in it's rear triangle, which eliminates the need for a 150mm hub. That being said, I still think the Transition TR450 is a sick bike, and I own a demo 7. The demo is longer, and has more weight in the rear of the bike. I hope you didn't base your whole decision on the wheel spacing issue...

I kinda based my decision on the fact that when I phoned specialized UK to ask about the frame I was told by a guy on sales that it isn't a downhill bike its a freeride bike and that both sam and brendans bikes are 83mm bb and 150mm back end. I have since had chance to ride a demo and I'll be honest and say that it rode really well and I liked it a lot.

Wow, that's interesting. You've obviously done your homework. I'm surprised the sales guy told you Brendan and Sam's bikes use 150mm, and unfortunately that lead to losing a sale! I stand corrected, although I've never seen my 135mm back end as a limitation. I do however use it more as a freeride bike, and don't race competitively. How are you liking the TR450. Those things look so nice, and I love Transition as a company. I will probably not get another specialized. Don't get me wrong, I love my bike, and have never ridden anyone's bike I liked more, but Specialized is the Wall-mart of the bike world...and I would like to support a company that doesn't dominate the market as much.

they let me lead next time cos i got a 4 second lead, but when i led from the start i got a flat front and squirmed down a minute slower than them Frown

10 mile push home cos i rode it there (it is a hardtail, so its not that hard to ride on flat/uphill trails Big Grin
