If you look at the top where it say "Riders: Justin Leov" Justin Leov is the name of the rider. He's pretty sick too, came second at the race behind Bryn and Bryn rides there a fair bit.

The D3s and the D3X are two totally different cameras.

The D3X is a 24.5 Megapixel camera designed for studio and other commercial work. It only shoots 5fps (enough for most sports work) and the workable ISO goes up to a little over 1600 iso.

The D3s is a 12.5 Megapixel camera designed for action and journalism. It shoots 9fps and the workable ISO range easily goes to 12800 iso. It also shoots video.

The real comparison should be between the D3 and the D3s, the D3 has an older sensor, not quite as good at high ISO but still excellent, and the D3 doesn't shoot video. I like the D3s a lot, although if I had to buy a new camera in the next 6 months I would probably wait for a D4 to come out, probably in Sept/Oct.

What are the minimum mp for magazine/ad work or does it work that way? It seems not too long ago 6mp was a pro dslr and magazine photos still looked pretty good. I recently shot something for a magazine and the requirements were on the limit of what my little D70s could deliver.

Ian being the expert I would think has his own opinion on this topic, and certainly default to him......but although 6 is probably good enough (if not less), it seems people are looking in the 8-10 range.......I was asked for .tiff files recently that were 30-40MB, but that wasn't mtb related.....

I used to shoot posters with my 4.5MP D2H no problem at all, and lots of magazine stuff. And that 4.5MP D2H still takes way higher quality shots than todays 12MP point and shoots. So it's not really about the pixels, but the quality of the digital image itself. Magazines will say that your camera needs to be 8MP or greater, or even higher sometimes, but it's because they don't really understand the process, or they're trying to limit the photography to pros with pro DSLR's. The 12.5MP pro DSLR's do create a far superior image for reproduction than the 7MP cameras do, but there are so many other factors involved. The size and quality of the actual pixels themselves is more important than just the number of them. As far as Megabytes a 12MP camera will produce a tiff that is @ 30MB at 8 bit. My D3x tiffs 8 bit are about 34MB, 16 bit are about 69MB, and JPG full quality are around 7MB for the same photo. That JPG when saved as a tiff becomes 34MB, same as the original tiff. And there is very little difference in quality between the JPG full file and the 8 bit Tiff file. So you can send someone a full quality jpg and they can immediately save it as a tiff to make it a "large file"

its all about pixel pitch for quality and for running studio and sports bodys i use a old 1dmkIIn and 1dsmkII i pefer the smaller 8 megapixel for work flow to the 16megapixel using light room and dxo but the 1dsmkII is still usable for sports at 4fps where as the mkIIn is 8fps (first digi i shot with was 10d which had 3fps) also cool shot of justin
