Yeah, I guess it is, I tell myself I have to change something every month, just to see if it makes a difference, I would get tired of the same old bike
I love it, I am looking to do a similar thing, but keeping different forks and shock to get the whole range of travel!! This is soooooooo nice!!!!! I hope mine turns out as good!! (But dude, hope tech m4s over Hayes striker aces!!)
Thanks dude. I'm pretty sure Hope brakes are good but I've never had one to date, they look over-engineered to me and too expensive for star imo. Have you ever tried Stroker Ace?
hi, nice bike what length of chain ring bolts are you using, cause i am thinking about changing my slx in to a single ring, and dont know what length of bolts to get. also would a 200mm i2i fox rp23 fit on one of these?
I'm using standard chainring bolts with addition of spacers.
You can run 200mm shock with 216mm shock mounting plates, remember this will drop the bottom bracket significantly and will only allow for around 110-130mm of travel.
Super sick voltage bro..would like to check when running the 215 i2i shock in the 222 mountings how does it alter the bikes handling characteristics since it'd lower the bb abit and slackens out the head angle slightly??
Thanks. No big difference with a head angle as we are only talking about 7mm shorter shock + I'm running 160mm forks, not 180. Obviously that means the BB goes down which improves cornering and the cranks gets just enough clearance.
This will probably sound stupid, i may not have read it right but on the pic it says your running 130 up front and in a comment says your running 160 which is it?:')
In my previous post I was referring to the frame geo at the full, 160mm travel, that can be set with TALAS 36 forks. Picture presents the bike with forks set at 130mm.
Yes, it can no problem, any combination is possible and it will slightly affect the geo. I almost always ride it with 135mm travel at the back though, only switching between 160/130 up front for different conditions. I love the bike for being so versatile.
Thanks. I was hoping some people thinking of buying a new frame may find the details useful, also makes the picture bit different from what we normally find on PB.
You mean this picture isn't from the Scott catalouge? Haha. Awesome photography. Maybe this is a stupid question, but how did you get the bike to stand upright? Did you prop it up with something and then photoshop it out for the final photo?
Large volume, similar thread to Big Betty's, great on loose and wet, not the best on hardpack, just good and probably one of the lightest FR tire available. I used to love the old 'fat albert', these new ones are quite different though, more aggressive in my opinion.
What I have here is TALAS and I switch the travel between 160-130mm depending of the trail. From what I have heard both VAN and FLOAT are fantastic FR tools but I personally do not have any experience with them. I am not a hardcore rider and any decent 160mm forks will be just fine for me. I must say I loved the Lyrik's feel over the Talas though. ...180mm 36's - these must be pricy !?!?
Weird perhaps for someone, looks absolutely normal to me You can find this bike set-up with single air can shocks like FOX Float RP23 or RS Monarch but I guess for serious freeriding, where the weight is not that important, you would run a coil shock on it. All down to the owners taste.
I'm 178cm tall [5'10"]. The 'short' suits me well. I was trying the 'Long' before the purchase and it was just too long for what I need the bike. I'm not riding serious downhill on it. Hope that helps.
