 I believe the chainring is a 30 tooth, combined with only 6 gears out back(the smallest gear being an 11 tooth!). There was an article not long ago about the monster engergy specialized team prototyping their new 6 speed drivetrain. On another note; amazing photo!

 your right about everything except that the smallest cog is a 9 tooth. a standard mountain casette has 11 tooth.

 correct. and also, I just looked at the article and the chainring is a 31 tooth.

 it just fits,i think that would be easy comparing it to modigying the chainguide back plate for working with the 31 tooth ring

 well brendons set up has been a 31 tooth chain ring and a 6 speed rear wiht lie 9 teeth cogs

 hmm... well it must be good. its just wierd seeing that, considering that its almost a marketing thing to not have black stantions. i doubt the color even matters anyways, its not like every coating has to have color to it.
