Selected by Ian Hylands - I just love how this shot messes with your normal ideas of perspective... Lighting is great, and it's not always easy to shoot indoors and make it look good, lunatyk did a great job of that with this one. Most of his shots are outdoors with no flash so I was stoked to see this one!
From what I heard when they release the 6.0 Tunnel Jam video, they said the 'park' or whatever was built for the competition but will be left there for the community...
Yes my mistake, it was recommended in a message to me from Lunatyk and for some reason I though it was his. Credit for this one definitely goes to Gepard79
I need to apologize for the comment on this one, I had it in a folder of Lunatyk's photos and for some reason I assumed it was his without looking at the actual name on it. gepard79 took it....
Nike suck, seriously.... a company as big as Nike cant afford insurance...??....??.... companys like Vans and Etnies have been sponsoring riders, comps and parks SINCE DAY ONE, Nike only came along since BMX has been fashionable/profitable.....
Its not that they cannot afford it. They will not let them for certain reasons. You know nothing about marketing stratagies to do with nike, a billion dollar company. Its not that they do not want to sponsor big events. Its marketing stratagy. Dumb as*.
1) because of the location, totally out of the way and the local village wont like it plus it's not the most accessible place 2) for the fact if someone gets hurt they will be liable meaning they need insurance on it for no reason at all other than for people to ride it and the ramps get more ruined! 3) cost of maintenance and running of the place also fuel for generator it's just not worth it just so others can ride it, if your in the know and can find someone that's nice enough to take you there take the opportunity cause it will only happen once
paulclarke: I am not one to be a keyboard warrior like everyone else, and usually stay quiet, but please tell me how this has anything to do with Nike's overall marketing stratEgies ? Nojzilla is right, nike wasn't into the hole skateboarding/BMX/extreme sports scene until they started garnering mainstream attention; they then saw a niche to fill, and jumped on the market with the 6.0 branding campaign. Sponsoring professional athletes in the disciplines, sponsoring (albeit later on) events, and other areas of the sports. It IS a marketing campaign - a company sponsoring events and riders, making products that they want to sell to the niche market (via advertising through not only magazines, but events and parks and comps such as the one held at the location in the photo), that's all marketing and its all an attempt to gather attention towards their brand and products.
Now, the fact that they don't want to pump money into a park, and keep it running due to insurance, local cultural views and fuel/energy cost is a WHOLE different area. It may tie into marketing a little bit, as they WOULD be the ones running it and be directly attached to the sport, but its not part of their marketing strategy per say.... not the central core one anyway.
surely a 6.0 nike sponsored skate would be good promotion and there are always ways around the problems that are atopping this being opened to the public ... cleraly there not that bothered
cheers doubledeuce, my point also is compare the money that BMX and BMX'ers get from nike to the money that atheletes like Jordan or Tiger Woods get..... sure B'ball and golf are bigger sports with bigger sales revenue, hence my point about Nike getting into it after over 20 years of grass roots companies building thier own DIY scene
also remember that Nike run Hurley as an alternetive sports/life style brand so the Nike name can stay for mainstream sports now thats what i understand about marketing Mr Clarke
know your roots kids sure Nike do some cool stuff BUT look at what Vans Etnies Hoffman bikes ect ect did when nike didnt wanna know
Anyway think about the marketing Nike 6.0 are getting just from the pictures being taken down, everyone knows it's an exclusive place so their amazed when a photo is taken!
love this POD! And I really want to ride there, I have so many ideas from watching the Nike 6.0 tunnel jam for lines and stuff! Shame you have to be invited and I will probably never get to ride there
