Selected by Ian Hylands - There are a lot of photos that I stare at for a while before deciding to make them POD and this is one of those. I'm not a big fan of the light on the right side. I like the way that the photo is lit, I just don't like the light being in the photo, or its position. That's not to say that I don't like lights in photos, I've shot many photos that I've put lights in for effect. I think this one is just too bright and dominating, it takes away from what's really going on. Which is a sick tireside view of corner with lots of roost flying at the camera...
I'm sure someone is going to hate on me for my comments about the light, and wonder why I made it POD if I don't like it. Just to clarify I really like the light on the rider and the way it's lit, it's just the light actually being where it is in the shot that I don't like... And I think the rest of the photo is great, that's kind of a given, I made it POD...
Gotta disagree ... It's got a great ROT thing going on, the depth of field is kinda subtle but it's there, the light creates the mood, and that flash's light looks like he's about to tear into some kind of time warp or something.
Yeah it's totaly over used, but then this is the digital age and alot of "photographers" don't really know the fundamentals that some of us learned from the get go. In terms of THIS picture stand alone, I like it, but I can TOTALY see your point too aye.
I have to be honest, for me the flash detracts from anything good in this photo. The action itself is incredible but you really have to look for the details of the roost because of that glaring flash that takes up almost a third of the frame. I could have been a great shot, but I think it missed. I wonder how it would have looked with the photographer being down the hill a few steps and a bit in front of the rider.
great shot! I think having a light off to the left to backlight the roost would have made it pop a lot more as well. Of course that's easy for me to say, I have lots of lights...
Yeh, I would class £200 as cheap. Especially for the fun of a fisheye. I am going to change from a 1DMkii to a 7D, as the iso performance in low light and video are what I am looking for. Think I will be investing in one of these after I change. Thanks for the info, it is much appreciated.
