Might I suggest that if anyone wants to see a specific genre of riding, they can always click "photo", chose whatever type of riding they want and browse all the latest photos on the website. I do this regularly and their is actually a lot of interesting shots in there. Let's not forget that the POD isn't the only interesting content on the site. I say search around and find something that suits your style. I'm hyped when I find a sweet shot by some unknown photographer and I say props to everyone that puts their shots up and opens them up to criticism.
I don't really care what they do on their bikes. I think shooting DJ in general is much harder than filming it especially when it comes to BMX comps where the riders sre doing 3 or four tricks per jump. As long as the picture is good, unique or conveys power or speed its good.
I don't see expressing his opinion as trolling. I read your comments all the time shred, sometimes you have negative things to say too. Does that mean you are trolling?
As a voice of moderation making a comment such as " i think its a really average picture as far as pictures go! im sick of dirt jumping pictures! we want more freeriding pics! big mountain stuff!" is awesome, but making a negative comment such as "Lame" with no explanation is technically against the posting etiquette guidelines Just saying in case anyone wonders why this type of comment gets deleted occasionally.
If you want more freeriding and big mountain pics then feel free to recommend any that you think are POD worthy. Either to me personally or to the POD reccomendations forum
I thought it was a pretty damn good POD for the record. Comments like "lame" may be against the posting etiquette guidelines, and justifiably so, but calling it "trolling" is a bit of a stretch.
ok, i can see it was a bit bitchy of me to just say "lame" and i do apologise to the photographer as indeed you do have as much skill behind a lens as the rider in the pic! i respect you and your work. i am just a little frustrated with what seems like the domination of dirt jumping pics as POD's! mountain biking is such a diverse sport yet it seems we only get to see a few sides of it on POD. surely a POD in essence in essence should just capture the heart of riding! be it a sick dirt jump trick or even (and this may piss some people off) but maybe even a scenery picture every now and then to get the exploration juices flowing! it seems people have forgotten that we are allowed our own opinions! again, i apologise for the lack of respect for a great picture! way better than i have ever taken! ian i look forward to seeing the pictures you choose every morning!keep up the amazing work!
I must admit, i dont believe this photo should be pod today. As much as that trick must be hard and take "skill" i dont think it's amazing.. the colour in the photo isnt WOW, it's also not something thats jaw droppingly nuts. it just seems a pretty average shot by the photographer. Just my thoughts Oh and lastly 11905 people have seen this photo and only 285 have favourited it.. do more people agree it's not the best photo? or is it as unitclothing uploaded it that it's been given more "press" as more people follow them?
Exactly 9 out of the previous 24 POD's have been dirt jumping. There have been a couple of other bikes in the air shots as well, but honestly we do try to keep it balanced. As for the lack of freeride shots I really haven't seen many good ones lately. I do have a few lined up, but they end up being spread out between race shots, dirt jump shots, all mountain shots, and occasionally an epic XC shot as well..
with all due respect Ian, and i promise thats ALOT because i hold you in very high regard, but 9 out of 24 is over a third. which means every third day we see dirt jumping. i understand its probably the most commercial of all genres in the mtb world and so as a result there are many more pics of it that would be good, thus making selecting other good pics difficult. but im sure you can understand it gets a little frustrating at times when i log on and every third pic has, in essence, the same feel to it! again, i respct your work and effort and am in no way saying you do a bad job at picking pics!
I understand that, and at the expense of a lot of dislike from more than a few vocal users on the site we'll slowly be evening things out even more. I think the biggest challenge is that it's winter in the northern hemisphere right now so the vast of majority of great new shots I'm seeing are either racing or dirt jumping, which hopefully explains what you see in the POD's. As I mentioned earlier I'm open to suggestions, let me know what's out there, I can only see so much on my own. Thanks for the input!
