Didn't know this was already on PB, I didn't even know the guy was a user here. I apologize to Gerald ( http://gersandri.pinkbike.com/) for using this picture without his consent, I never meant for it to get so popular, I just wanted to share it with friends. :)
anyone for a second hand pair of '08 Travis? They can be delivered flatpacked.... By the look of the pic I've ridden worse on my hardtail! Awesome timing on the shutter buddy- good reactions!!
Have a cupp'a concrete and run the rest of the track (that's ofcourse if he can still feel his feet and see past the fork lube on his goggles)!!! SSSSHHHHIIITTTT!!!!!!!!!!
Thank f*ck he's ok, thanks iceman8 for posting the vid of it, savage crash but looks like he managed to roll out of it. Hate seeing pics like that without knowing whether the ride was ok or not, glad all's well. Epic fail for those forks!
the Navy invented Duct tape and released it to the public way back when, they still use it to this day quite often and so do other forces. Sound like such a nerd.
Surprised nobody noticed in the video but I think he needs to fire his mechanic. I don't think they broke, I think the lowers came off of the stanchions. Watch when they're taking the bike off the track.
Everyone else has said something along these lines: "No rider should have to deal with this..." unless they bought a Manitou fork, in which case they deserve it.
I had a pair of those forks a couple of years back. They seriously suck ass! I didn't snap them like this poor fella, but they let me down time and time again with non-consistant performance. I have a nice scar from the final time I rode them
Are you serious ruari? You're wishing severe bodily injury and the possibility of death upon a person for buying a product you don't like? REAL f*cking classy.
True, but i couldnt imagine someone wishing on another persons misfortunes (especially a fellow rider), so i assumed he meant it in a light non offensive way.
A bunch of other people did it in these comments alone, and people here aren't necessarily the most civil, there's some mean hate filled people on here, a lot of them. It's very disheartening.
I am of the photo I am Gerald Sandri, in Argentine championship 2009, I leave a Link them so that they can enter and see picture by picture as travis were broken. Greetings to all fans. Gerald Sandri
I like how the kids on here are saying you deserved to crash like that for using that fork, such low class people. Looks like you got away from that wreck relatively unscathed.
Hey Gerald
This was posted on a thread, and the link didn't direct you to Pinkbike, so I wasn't sure if it was on here. I posted it to show my friends, and ALL credit goes to you and the photographer. I did not anticipate this getting POD, and I apologize for any inconvenience caused.
Great crash, though.
c'mon man, that could have happened to Fox40 easily, some people some situations are just... meant to be... it's easy to stigmatize cheap products. My friend just tested Suntour Durolux and sees pretty much no difference between that and his Fox Float 180 costing 6 times more. Even internals are the same.
I've taken it out. The proof manitous are no good is they make something then ditch it the next year. So everyone with a couple year old manitou when they need parts they need a new fork. Other companies at least make their parts retrofitable to older models even if they ditched that technology. Plus how many other forks have you seen the lowers fall off on. theres 3 cases above my post alone for manitou
no surprise on the marzo, and not sure what point you're trying to make there with the travis comment. they make parts for up to 5 years for old forks, but you can't drop new technology in, rockshox and fox you can replace your blown damper with their newest nicest ones with ease-supporting existing existing customers instead of f***ing em and trying to sell a new fork. f tard
Again- 5 years your travis is within 5 years. But whatever suit yourself. I form my opinions on 8 years of industry experience. My experience is that about 90% of manitou and Marz owners who come in with issues get told by the manufacture they need a new fork, fox and rockshox only about 5%. Hopefully you have better luck, but based on ther track record i doubt you will.
Why buy one of those personal misters when you can get a triple clamp fork? I heard they're designed to break like that so right before you hit the ground, you at least get a nice bath of cool oil on your face to make the fall a whole lot more refreshing.
the original photo is in argentine¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡not in new zeland¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ my dear friend gerard sandri¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡this photo was 2 years ago¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
unbelievable capture..! hope you bought a lotto ticket after this.. and sorry for that dude! those are the worst kinds of crashes to be had.. i bet he still has no idea whats going on ..
It happens to Boxxers, it happens to Zokes... Big deal. All the haters don't know the history of this guys fork. How many times has he wrecked on it, sent it ragdolling end over end, etc... Fatigue happens, the more you stress it, the more likely it is to break. Random catastrophic failure happens as well... Nothing on earth is built to not fail.
a bit of a poor show that a repost is getting POD if i was the original photographer id be rather pissed off i recon this is the original... www.pinkbike.com/photo/4200810
The Intrinsic Damped Travis suffered from this problem, after a run at Ft Bill there was so much pressure in mine that it had 1" of travel available and was full of air pressure somehow. I had to leave the fork upside down for 20 minutes before thinking of another run..
this is an awesome photo. rare in fact. how many photos like these do you see? timing is perfect. look at get snapped and the oil just spewing all over. the rider still intent on riding, i bet he hasn't a clue what happened yet coz everything went too fast.
manitou travis eh? good thing their dorado's are built tough. i've tried their XC forks, the skareb and the R7 and its just too skinny and it flexed a lot of times when pushed hard.
Intrepid weight weenie downhiller goes to extreme lengths to trim lbs from his rig.
"Yeah, I know it's got no front suspension, or front brakes, or, erm, a front wheel, but this thing weighs like 28lbs and I don't even have any carbon on here."
that is the most perfect cash photo i have ever seen ... absolutely perfect timing :') just as the font wheel and lower leg of the fork is flying into your face and your stantions dig into the ground... love it
ok, "IF" this was real then i am for sure never buying manitou again.... but seriously, what are the chances this would happen let alone someone actually getting a shot of it on film.... not likely
well i just watched that vid so maybe it is real... so what the mechanics rebuilt the forks incorrectly?? he wasnt even doing anything huge... i had the travis' on my trek session too they were decent
At least they don't break. Is possible that the the technician or whoever didn't tighten the bolts below the fork.
I hope to see manitou create some very decent forks like the ninetees to two thousand.
it was his fault, he left the nuts on the bottom of the fork that keep the lowers and stanchions/internals connected off. yes its tragic, but think befoe you act. cheers
@iceman8 (and others)... that video can't be of this crash. In the vid the stanchions remain on the bike. In this photo it doesn't look like there's anything left.
rock shox boxxers for dh, i like the tora for xc, cuz it works really well and isnt super expensive. and if u dont ride boxxers for dh, u better ride fox 40's or be cheap like me and ride drop of triples.
That's not true. They were always good, and they have stepped up their game even more, eg. Circus, new Dorado, etc. This could have happened to any other fork.
travis is working better than dorado, my friend have dorado and travis and it saind never Travis did not replace for anything else everyone who have Travis does not want to change it.
oh...
(and hes still on the front brake, whatta trooper )
