Selected by Ian Hylands - Of all the shots Sterl had in his Hawaii story, this was the one that spoke to me the most. It wasn't the sickest or biggest trick, but it was the one that made me want to bring my bike the next time I go to Hawaii. For most people this is what biking is about, and this photo is amazing!
shit fuck muther fuck why can't i delete my account, i'm being a fucking asshole cuz you're a twat face and i can't delete my goddam pinkbike account, so i'm trying to get banned instead now delete me you shit eating cock suckers
Its funny cause sometimes we never see how pretty it is where we ride because we are riding. Sometimes I hike the trails I ride and am like WOW look what I'm missing. Stop and smell the roses once in awhile !
This is the BEST POD we have had for decades...Way to select a good one Ian. (Much better than that blurry piece of poop we had a few weeks ago.. www.pinkbike.com/photo/7028273 )
Hawaii is basically paradise- amazing surf, mind blowing scenery, the most beautiful women you'll ever see... You can even have a rip on your bike and stop for a pineapple on your way home! I prefer it here at work, honest!
it truly is the main idea of the sport, it sort of brings me back to the days where training and racing weren't a part of it, and it was just about getting some buddies, grabbing your bikes, and going for a ride. being able to have fun in something as simple as a parking lot or a little stair set
iuta's just sad he didn't get to give you guys a tour. Then, he'd show you how rad he can get! I've got several good friends that build trail upcountry and on the westside and they are the chillest guys around... Great shot, Sterling!
Couldn't agree more, both in the natural element, the photographic element, and that subconscious riding feeling you get when you see a pic like this...
honestly the best thing about this is the scenery, other then that theres no action, theres nothin that makes me wanna say "damn, this is sick" its really kinda boring
hmm...what about the epic sunset? the powerful look of the two riders? and the fact that even though the pictures shows a small part of the trail, it seems like it's endless? it's the simplicity that reminds us of why we started riding in the first place
its all good jesseBMXs, they actually just came from gapping over a hot magma flow ( would've been an epic shot indeed ) where it was just too hot to stop and take a photo... not to mention the velociraptors that were chasing them down the trail when this photo was shot ( unfortuneatelly they were out of frame ) ... the photographer survived only by staying very still and blending into the flora, their vision is based on movement y-know.
Nice comment iuta. Please stay on your island and don't think about visiting the mainland again until you lighten up a bit. We don't need your attitude here.
Actually the truth is that the USA ( iuta ) stole hawaii ( literally ) from the natives by forcing the queen off her throne over 100 years ago. So iuta, ' stay home and dont come over here ' is what we have done. Unless you are 100% hawaiian ( which ur not cause they are virtually extinct )
i agree with paulclarke. im born and raised on the islands but without history being what it is all the locals there wouldnt be there right now. my grandma was %100 hawaiian and one of the only ones i knew. my mom is 3/4. as far as i know they just started to re-teach the hawaiian language in public schools a few years ago. i know guys with that same frame of thought but i have to assume its because they never got off the islands. no disrespect to you iuta but maybe you should broaden your horizen a little and see whats beyone the islands. aloha and mahalos. 808!!!!
I've spent a fair bit of time in Hawaii over the years, even lived and worked there for short periods, and I still have some good friends there. My sons name is Kainoa. Hawaii has had a long and brutal history of foreign invasion, first by the Russians, then by the French, and then by the British. It was finally illegally annexed to the States in the late 1800's. And the Hawaiian people are now made up of a large number of foreigners including asians and portugese that immigrated as workers. As such true Hawaiian blooded people have a right to be a little pissed about the way they've been treated, but as you said surfer79 there are very few of them. And that still doesn't give anyone the right to have a bad attitude in general. My comment was directed at iuta who has photos of himself riding in Whistler and the North Shore of Vancouver, but then still makes a comment about dumb haoles staying home. It goes both ways, and open minded people are usually far more welcome everywhere...
lol, ian i agree. i looked at iuta's profile and he should know better. iuta, you should know better. btw, huge fan of your work ian, unfortunatly i have to sell off my gear to fund a new ride. hopefully i can replace it later.
maybe you should git a dank camera and take te pics yourself than. your hatin on all of these dope shots yet dont have any of your own. bummer dooooooooood
@iuta: Yeah i agree with Ian, if you read his description it's not like the biggest rad trick (that's what i'm assuming you're talking about) it's the fact that it's two mates out shredding a train together. and the lighting and composition also help but Sterling Lorence is a rad photographer and i'd like to see you take better photos.
It may not be as "intense" as Iuta ride out there in paradise but this really isn't an "intense" photo. It's gorgeous, and is a perfect picture for avid bikers to sidetrack on during their 9 to 5 office/cubical job. Consider this a slice of Heaven, Iuta has probably seen the whole pie, He just hasn't had a camera to capture it..
It's "photo of the day" not "hardcore insane trick/jump of the day"
And on a second note, I agree with IH in that you should post some of your pictures. I'm sure Shandro and McCaul would be blown away at what they couldn't ride when they were out there.
well, i guess those who hate must be into FR or DJ. if you don't like it, STFU! wait till someone here makes a DJ or FR picture into a POD. and probably those into trail riding will diss that POD of a DJ or a crazy FR scene. haters gonna hate? of course they would! don't get me wrong. i ride XC, trail, FR/DH and even road. i haven't dissed any POD even if its a DJ or BMX shot (which i don't do). i just STFU.
