Selected by Colin Meagher - Great action from Sterl and Shandro. I particularly like the way the line of the trail meanders through the shot and the nice balance of the diagonals to add a sense of movement to the shot.

I like the shot just the biking was kind of in the background. It was almost a scenery picture and then, "oh there's the biker!"

I think this picture is demonstrating that Its more about the ride and where you end up sometimes, than just the riding itself.

"If the rider was 10 or 15 ft further down the trail" it would like just another central focus point autofocus image. It is this composition that makes the picture. Just sayin'.

there's something to be said for that and I don't think it's that he wasn't in the center, I just think he was too small to be easily noticed.

Nothing against Ian but it's nice to see someone else choose a POD for once. Also, I found it kind of hard to see the rider, but sick shot nonetheless.

yeah, rider should have been 3m further down the trail... in a perfect world.

Good call hillatoppa, 2 or 3m more would had the rider right at the 1/3 point of the shot.

Your comment also reminded me of the thought I had while reading Colin's write up ...."There's a trail???"

I've seen a few shots where Sterl does this and personally I like it. Makes your eye take in more of the shot I think. A rider almost hiding in the shot gives an appreciation of the scale of the trail. He's such a rad photographer.
