look at the high-res version of the photo. the shoe is spd compatible, and there is a little something protruding out of the middle of the pedal, which seems to suggest spd.

never ran clips before so i'm not to sure on this, but at 2:20 in his WC run he is one foot off, would he have had time to do this had he been running clips ?

Kev most SPDs these days can be exitted and re-enterted really easily once you get the knack, hell i've seen Danny riding at my local trails doing 1 footer style tricks with clips, tbh modern SPDS are just better than flats if you ask me given once you get used too them
