buaaaaaaa!!!! f*cking awesome, but i don't understand how can the camera catch all the light and just only the perfect shot of the rider instead of all the movement... no words!

How do you get the long exposure for the light with out blurring the rider?

flag progression (Oct 21, 2011 at 23:55)
 one of two ways.

A. Two exposures, like this one. 1 for the light trail, 1 with the flashes to freeze the action; Combine for final shot.

B. (more difficult) single exposure and popping the flash when the rider is in the air will freeze him in a longer exposure. Only downside is the rider will be slightly transparent (because he's only in that one spot for a fraction of a second, and while the shutter is still open it will continue to expose what's behind him).

I used method A, but I'm going to try the second way this weekend. I want to do it the more traditional way by getting the final shot in camera without using photoshop to combine exposures.

If you have the background completely dark like you have here then the rider should really come out transparent I have done a couple 10 and 15 minute exposures like that and not have the person see through. I am curious on how your is gonna turn out :-)
