The rider almost looks like he's got a vapour trail behind him... Great shot, if I had to choose one photograph to define the word "epic", this would be it!
Brilliant shot, unfairly placed against another shot that is also of a very high standard in the 1st round of the POY comp. Sadly one will make it through while the other is eliminated, while other shots of much lesser merit in the comp will proceed to the next round. Makes no sense. Congratulations shooter, great work!!
yeah there were a few paired up like that, making the choice painfully tough. A bit of a shame for the photographers, but thems the breaks. Hopefully we will still see a good selection down the pointy end...

Trail: Little Egypt Riders: Brian Buell Description: Brian Buell...Man on a Ridge. Seems we've seen this all before, and the intent this time was actually to shoot from a bit higher-up and to incorporate the Henry Mountains in the immediate background. After a scrambling mission, it was obvious that this was the only vantage point to shoot from, unless the camera was placed on the same plane as the rider. NOT an option... so straight-into-the-sun it was... Brian packed out his run-in and i scrambled up a chute and onto the deck from where the shot was taken.
I gave the 2min warning, and with the sun parked right ON the horizon, we had a single run to get it right.
Another day at the office...
