 Mine is a 2009 session 88, i think Trek improved the strength of the 2011 one yeah.

 Combination of both, the impact was very hard and would have damaged most frames, but the session is also known for being very weak because the frame is made from very thin aluminium. I would't let this put you off too much, they are very light and fast, just not that strong (the newer models are stronger though).
