Shimano is the only choice. You know what SRAM stands for right?

Snap Right After Mounting.

flag seraph (Jan 30, 2012 at 12:06) (Below Threshold) show comment
If it stands for that, why does my drivetrain work flawlessly? 90% of my bikes have been running SRAM drivetrains. The only issues I've had with derailleurs have been with Shimano. Plus who runs a medium cage on a DH bike? It looks ridiculous. X.0 DH is the way to go.

flag seraph (Feb 5, 2012 at 15:32)
Cool story bro. I've had an X.9 derailleur on my bike for over a year with no issues. But then I always take care of my components and check it mechanically before every ride so maybe if you were nicer to your parts they would last longer.

I have snapped shimano xtr also, it happens...if it is brand new like you say, take advantage of the warranty that i'm sure they offer, I have a new xtr derailleur sitting in my drawer right now because of it.
  • + 11
flag seraph (Feb 5, 2012 at 19:38)
It's true. Both companies offer amazing warranties. If my SRAM derailleur broke, I wouldn't renounce SRAM's name like a little bitch and run crying to Shimano.
  • + 3
flag mrfitz424 (Feb 6, 2012 at 17:58)
all i'm saying is that it broke, in the middle of the second ride, on a brand new bike built by a pro mechanic. on a fire road, going up the hill.
  • - 1
flag seraph (Feb 6, 2012 at 18:10)
Many things could have contributed to the "failure" of your derailleur: improper chain length, a burr on the chain or chain ring, a bent link on the chain, poor chain line or chain guide alignment.
  • - 1
flag mrfitz424 (Feb 6, 2012 at 18:36)
true, but i know exactly what happened and i'm pretty sure that non of those factors contributed to the derailleur "failure".
  • + 12
flag timsupermere Plus (Feb 6, 2012 at 19:05)
I think the point is that both companies fail at times, I was disappointed when my xtr snapped, I was disappointed when my xo's pully locked up...I have not developed to a point in my derailleur owning life where I swear to either company, currently I am a fan of both companies and understand that I will run into issues (that can be easily fixed through things like warranties) when I ride my bike.

k i've read this entire convo... all drive train set ups fail sometimes. it happens, when your riding a bike down a trail over gnarly shit.... get over it. atm i have had both companies on my bike, from that time i have judged that SRAM is a far better shifting experience. it super crisp and works every time. i found that the saint that i had kinda clanked down not to smoothly. still perfectly fine just not quite as good as the X9. both companies have flaws, like for example, the saint brakes are insane, and the avids are good to but saint is a bit more solid.

but, everyone has the opinions, just thought i should put in mine

you are all wrong, my LG1r cranks are over a pound and a half lighter and 100% stiffer. the best of both worlds , granted the hive BB's suck but what ev there like 30$ and as for the brakes. yes the saints are better then the RXs but if any of you dun f*cks have run the top of the line Formulas you would be saying shit. dont be but hert you dont have the $$$$ to fork over on italian brakes. Also adding an apostrophe and an S to "artist" makes it possessive, not plural. Go back to school.

Also about that trek remedy slope bike. Who cares if he was wrong? Everyone makes mistakes, and brandon himself told me it might be released in 2010... But he didn't know, I guess they wanted to perfect the bike more. But so what, calm down about it. Be mature
