 If it's not too slippery to run, normally it's not too slippery to ride? It is mountain biking...

 That soil looks prime to me. maybe if the weren't running semi-slicks for low rolling resistance, she could get some traction.

 Kinda defeats the purpose of a bicycle race.

By "many riders", I would assume you mean not all of them had to run, making the course rideable for some, meaning the runners need to man up.

 There should be penalties for dismounting in XC.
