Selected by Scott Secco - Wow, one of my favourite World Cup photos ever. It's not easy getting a unique race shot but this fits the bill. This was a Photo of the Year candidate for a reason.
the problem is that pleople say" wow, best mtb photography i ever seen" and than in the "2012 Photo of the Year" - Round 3 the pic was eliminated by an other pic not so good
I think that was a really good comment... That was kind of an intelligent observation... Mhm... You must be smart... MAH! someone already gave you a neg prop so Nay! You are so full of shit! HaterS gonna hate!
My question is simply, why this picture has been eliminated? 23.6% against 76.4??!! WTF??! I don't understand how a worse pic have much more votes than this! clearly that is the photo of the year .. hence have commented that way!
@UtopianDream : a photo contest is a photo contest (by definition right?). So I guess it should have nothing to do with scenery, only a bit with biking, and a lot with photography. But no, this is definitly not a good shot. Composition may be original but is a clear fail. There was another from Val d'Isere (with Minaar I think, or maybe Gwin again?) which was REALLY impressive.
You know what? I didnt really like this photo much.... until i viewed it in X large. It is way better bigger. I did vote for the whip off pic because I was there and the pic captures the energy sooo well.
gclarida- I feel ya as much as it appears to be unpopular. It's almost as tough to spot the rider as it took for him to get there (slight exaggeration I know). I'd rather see the expression his face at that moment. Props though.
Amazing landscape but I peronally like photos that show the rider in more detail. show this to the average joe and he will think its just a picture of a mountain. only true bikers can appreciate the intensity of this shot.
I honestly can't stand pictures like this. It's almost like playing find the rider. I get what's its trying to accomplish but it annoys me. I dunno just my opinion
You can't appreciate the scope and context it puts our sport into? When I actually saw Gwin, and took in the whole photo, the photo painted a mental image of the true mountain slayers these DH racers are. There's something of an "epic" quality that the composition provides, like watching a man take on a titan almost.
