This photo is outstanding on so many levels. The exposure and rider are incredible but then you look at the details behind and you see how this amazing shot fits into everyday life.

How does it fit into everyday life? cause there is a trailer, some dudes, vehicles and a dog? Its a distracting background that draws attention off the subject.

the background kinda reminds me of google street view lol

anyone else notice the aaron gwin trek thing in the background?

Alien landing site. Sherrard's one of them now. Note the lights and increased altitude.

How is a shot like this taken? I assume the light trail is from a long exposure but the other elements are in sharp focus? Is it 2 pictures superimposed?

However it was done, it is awesome...

It's one exposure thats 10 seconds long, making the backround bright enough without lighting, and giving his lights a trail. Then for the rider himself there's just a flashgun going off while he's upside down.

Thanks for the class, I din't know how it was done!

Is it not two exposures. otherwise how would the rider be separated from the long exposure of his light trail?

No..... just Gwinn rides specialized. There are no other people at his level. Your argument is invalid

 Logan and bike nerd.
What?????? How is that even relevant?
  • 2 0
It is sharp because it is a high quality wide angle lens, with a full frame camera, and a very good photographer. Probably a Canon EF 8-15mm f/4 L USM Fisheye.

one exposure . the flash(s) are not as effective in a long shutter , see how his front tire fades into the sky . not a perfect shot imo but still pretty cool .

Caiokv, the 7d is a Crop sensor bro
  • 2 0
@Caiokv Not a full frame camera

Op's. Forget about the full frame thing then, but keep the rest Dead Horse

Incidentally my post about two exposures wasn't a statement it was a question, I get the long exposure thing and the flash but how does the long exposure not show the rider across the frame or movement in the background?
  • 1 0
the rider himself is to dark and moving to fast to show up ..... only his light trails "burn" into the image . that combined with the bright flash to "burn" him in for that one sec during the 10 sec exposure . good example is the guys in the background , you can see them clearly because they stood still during the 10 sec .. if they had moved they would have looked very blurry ..in fact one does look a little blurry like he moved slightly . hope that helps

love the exposure with the lights. so neat how its done as well
  • 1 0
if only it could be done as a sequence... very nice regardless
  • 3 0
That sounds like a good idea and I'm pretty sure it could be done with multiple flashes or a strobe light!

 Trek need a new advert!
  • 1 0
I don't see why... rampage and every other event has great riders rocking treks, just like every other major bike manufacturer.

Couldn't agree more, it was just when I first looked at this pic there was a photo of Gwin riding a Trek in the advert!
