Hmmm its nto all taht expensive when you think about it. (Though i agree, its expensive to me as its an easy task but i know how).
Tax, labour, electric/rent etc. Id put money on them not actually making a huge amount out of it.

My LBS charges me 4€ for changing my tubes and he does every kind of job, actually he has got a price per hour so it's okay

Doubt they are making much money on it but it gets return business.

If someone can't change a tube they have to pay someone with specialized knowledge, if there aren't any other bike shops in the area he can manage to charge whatever he wants.

This reminds me of this:

"A boss at a a company notices a machine isn't working, so he calls in the technician. The technician takes a look at the machine, tightens one screw, and then the machine works, the boss is thrilled and asks how much he owes the technician, the technician says he owes him 600€, the boss is surprised and asks for him to break down the cost of the repair, he answers with:
"Tightening screw: 1€
Knowing which screw to tighten: 599€"

Yes but IMO you don't have to try to make some money THAT way, I mean obviously most people doesn't know/ doesn't have enough time to change a tube and they prefer the LBS guy to do it, but what would get you more clients? make them pay your mortgage each time that they get a flat or just winning 1 € each time but knowing that they will come back?

I see those prices as a robbery, if you are good at your job and charge a reasonable amount of money each time I'll go back every time but if you charge me 212334653€ for fitting my tube I'll learn how to do it and you won't see me never again

Good point, guess it's why it's a good thing to be more than one of everything, competitive pricing.

Like a chain for £15, tube for £10, thats all standard, then wheel fitting is £15, and servicing is £30... wtf? how can a service only cost twice the price of fitting a wheel, and fitting a wheel cost more than changing the tube? you have to remove a wheel to change a tube... Or am i doing it wrong?
  • 1 0
Everywhere apart from there does tube for £5 and service for £40+depending on where they do more chain is £10 wheel free-£5 depending on place
  • 1 0
Its like twice the price round my way haha
