Having some fun in the snow underneath Neuschwanstein Castle // Composite of two images. One shot with 1/250s shutter speed for freezing the rider and a second shot with a longer exposure of 1,6s to blur the water. Exact values are: 1) ISO400, 20mm, f11, 1/250s and 2) ISO100, 20mm, f32, 1,6s. Of course shot from a tripod. // www.manuelsulzer.de
Selected by Scott Secco - This photo is more interesting the longer you look at it. By using a slow shutter speed Manuel was able to give the water an illusion of motion while freezing the rider with a flash; plus you can see Neuschwanstein Castle in the background... it's definitely not your every day riding spot.
Great photo, but Scott Secco's description is a little wrong. There's no way that the water would be that blurred using a shutter speed of 1/250th, meaning that it must be a composite of two images.
Still an fantastic original idea and unique location!
You're right. In fact it is a composite of two images. One shot with 1/250s shutter speed for freezing the rider and a second shot with a longer exposure of 1,6s to blur the water. Exact values are: 1) ISO400, 20mm, f11, 1/250s and 2) ISO100, 20mm, f32, 1,6s. Of course shot from a tripod.
no you not the only one.!!!!!! this would be an amazing pic if no photoshop was involved.
for me an action pic captures the action.
this is just creating you own action and that is all good but when its clear thats its not a real pic then it kinda takes a lot away from it.
"Composite of two images. One shot with 1/250s shutter speed for freezing the rider and a second shot with a longer exposure of 1,6s to blur the water."
Great shot, but it would be great if the editor picking the picture could take the time to read the photographers description of the shot so they could explane it properly. The photographer went to the trouble of explaining how he got the shot in his description (2 exposures blended together) which the editor couldn't be bothered to read and instead wrote a caption a la FOX NEWS.....off the cuff (freezing motion from the flash as you would with one exposure).
To be honest, I changed the description after Scott choose the picture as a POD. I wanted to react on the comments and answer the questions about shutter speed and motion blor in advance. So well, at least you can't blame the editor for not reading...
Tis a nice idea and image but the fact its two photos put together knocks it down in my opinion.
Not a real photo its half of two...
If the rider had the balls to do it would be amazing!
I guess you understood wrong what hast been composed here. The only thing changed from the "original" picture was the water to give it the effect of motion blur. So the rider HAD the balls and it was quite a tricky ride.
Rider is visually lost a bit in the whole pic, snowed tress attracts eye first, blurred water second, color dress of rider last ... but still very nice idea!
