Who in their right mind would vote for Steve Smith when you have Gee, Greg or Gwin? Unfortunately the only way Steve Smith will ever win is if everyone else crashes and dies. Smith is very consistant and has a lot or raw talent but he is just missing something. When he wins it will be because he got lucky.

stevie has much talent, but i think he loses time in the pedaling sections.. i don't think he is as fit as a gee atherton or a minnaar, but he was probably a candidate for the win!

Gee, Gwin and Minnaar were not at crankworx. you cant really compare crankworx to world cups or world champs. You are entitled to your opinion, even if it is a sh*t opinion. This is a Canadian website and thats the only reason Steve Smith got so many votes. No smart person would put money on Stevie for the win

I definitely think Steve Smith has the potential, but he needs more experience to compete with the top dogs in terms of consistency. It's just a matter of time.

Yeah, it's unfortunate that people tend to neg prop the honest truths, and I'm a huge Stevie Smith fan. (true fans call him Stevie lol). He's probably my favorite rider in terms of style, attitude, and being an ambassador of our sport, but it will take him maybe 2 or 3 more years to get to that #1 level like where Gwin, Greg, and Gee currently are.

Being academic about rankings does not equate to hating a rider.

Cuban-b I think what you said was spot on the money. I am honestly a big fan of "Stevie's" riding. I have huge respect for him as a rider(unfortunately do not know him personally so can't comment on him as a person) but i do think people are very biased. The only reason I posted my first comment was to get a reaction out of the Maple leaves. Mission Accomplished!! Stevie's time will come!
