rockshox for life!! and also keep it up with these polls pb, love um!
  • + 24
props deserved, just not rockshox for life...fox for life! (just stating opinions)
  • + 7
It depends the range of fork. I'd never desappointed by Marzo. Really reliable (until now).
  • + 3
i have been dissapointed with the zocchi xc forks their dh ones have never failed to impress though. i think they cant do closed cartride systems, air forks or flex free qr systems, gutted now ive got to spend the wedge on fox for my xc bike!!
  • + 2
rockshocks for life! yeah! but you need new one almost every year...
  • + 20
Rock Shox has the best quality to price ratio. Fox is far too much expensive...
  • + 11
ye but you pay for what you get
  • + 11
You say that, but the top models from both companies is about the same.
  • + 5
Fox may be a tad better, but it needs too be serviced too often, and that is expensive. Hence RS is better IMO.

But Marzocchi rules that one, you change oil once in a year or so, and it works juuuust fine. Big Grin
  • + 2
in general you usually don't pay for what you get, most of the time your paying extra for the brand (not saying its the case with fox vs rockshox)
  • + 3
it's "you get what you pay for"

"you pay for what you get" is like saying you'll only pay the amount that you think a product is worth after receiving it.
  • + 2
from my experience fox and rs need the same amount of tlc, just fox die without it (stanction wear), rockshox just feels like crap (stanctions do eventually wear and omg replacements cost more than fox's kashima equivelents!!), basically if you cant be assed to service a fork buy zocchi, if you can be bothered then you may find spending the extra for a fox fork is worth it.

its also worth mentioning that marzocchi forks depreciate like hell where fox hold their value pretty well which makes them a better investment if you can stomach the crunch to begin with!!!
  • + 2
i think stanchion wear on low end fox xc/trail forks is inbuilt obsolescence, kashima might change things a bit. i have a 05 888 only showing thinning of the coating after 7 years of constant use so long stanchion life shouldn't be too hard to achieve but it's not in the profits interest.
  • - 3
i dont see why anybody would still support marz when their key crew left to create DVO!!! Marz is done lets see DVO take its rightful place
  • + 12
Why so a lot of people don't like manitou?!New forks(since 2010) are fantastic!
  • - 3
too much money and a bit of a gamble, the power 3 are a safer bet for reliable performance
  • + 3
that doesnt make sense their dj fork is best on the market price and performance are you nuts
  • + 1
I completely agree with you guys.. When i wanted to buy new fork all my friends told me to take RS/Marzocchi..i didn't want them since i've broke 3x dj 1... I tried circus expert and you know what? Those friends have their own manitous nowSmile
  • + 5
I'm fast loosing respect for FOX. Brand new 2013 32 talas, 3rd ride lost all rebound and compression damping. Even when they are working well, they blow through the mid stroke way way too easily. And with the new CTD you can't do much about it. same goes for the ctd boost valve shock
  • + 3
try out a reba, revelation, or sektor, mid and ending stroke is what is a must for me in a fork because I cant stand blowing through my travel and all three of those forks are a world of difference from any fox
  • + 2
same here. i sold my twice-rebuilt talas for cheap after the travel adjuster failed on me twice, once before the first rebuild, and once after the first rebuild. these were sent in warranties and they still failed. twice. came back stiction-ey as F**K after the second rebuild too. WTF?

I think they've just fallen off in terms of performance since they became super successful in the MTB scene -- aesthetically still the best looking fork out there, but that doesn't mean jack if your s**t fails all the time. I had a year 2001 Fox Vanilla 125 RLC that was *phenomenal*. Best fork I'd ever ridden. This is compared to the tried and trued Z1 BAM and Z2 BAM of the late 90s which are still excellent to this day (open oil bath is hands down the best system) -- the RLC125 was that good.

What happened, Fox?
  • + 1
common complaint with the ctd stuff, try using the trail setting in the fork and adding an extra 5-10cc of float fluid in the air chamber, then lower your pressure slightly, itll open up the first part of the stroke a little and stop it diving too much
  • + 1
Im not impressed either. My 2012 has been back on warranty twice as the stantions keep creaking in the crown.
  • + 3
Id run Manitou front and rear somewhere in future. For me they produced the most technologicly sdvanced dampers. No other company produced a fork with hollow crowns, inertia valves (Spv) , and now all use their pm standard. They were far ahead for the time when they started the 6way swingers too. Had a 5th element then which is similar and id say thats the best shock ive ridden. They dont bring the noise to the heavens to sell. Im sure peope who switched to 09 travis or the new dorado and set it right can confirm. Im not religios about brands, just doing a lot of research what they put inside and why.
  • + 1
"Had a 5th element then..." how about still rockin a 5th element! That's right! How come its not on the list?...I know why Frown
  • + 6
Rockshox in the front, Fox in the back. Damn you specialized and your OEM suspension setup
  • + 7
Bos at the front and Cane Creek at the rear, the best!! Beer
  • + 1
if youre running a bos fork have you tried a bos shock with it??

its supposed to be a better balance but i guess that depends on how you set them all up
  • + 1
only euros have BOS out here always a head turner stuff looks rad
  • + 1
I have Rock Shox Revelation, but would love to get my hands on a BOS Deville.
  • + 2
One RS Rev Black box, great fork.

One Magura Thor 140, even better fork (and the best service in the suspension world).

One Bos Stoy, nice shock, worst service in the suspension world, I will never buy another Bos product so long as they live.

Likely to be buying X Fusion and Magura only from now on. Rockshox pricing is too high and Fox is... Fox.
  • + 1
I would like to try x-fusion in futureSmile
  • + 4
lol of course fox takes the lead. anyone who wants a dialed bike probably grabs a 180 float without even thinking...it's all the image imo.
  • + 3
your right, people dont pay attention to whats in their suspension, which is important
  • + 1
YES!!! 180 floats are the dogs bollocks!!! love mine dont know where id be without them!! even without thinking about how awsome they look!!
  • + 2
I used to have Fox. Then I got a Rock Shox. Never looking back. Now looking to switch out my RP23 on the back to a Monarch RT3. Love that setup on my 29er. No need for Fox when the RS works and I can barely tell it's there. No problems and easy to work on.
  • + 3
Having ridden both fox and rockshox rear shocks i'd for a fox on a the back. They feel nicer and my rockshox one got an oil leak in the 1 week :/ having said that it kept working for like 4 months- must of had bloody loads of oil in it. Rockshox forks for life though
  • + 2
I much more prefer my Monarch in the rear. And no lads, not that rear.... My Monarch has three settings and are distinctly different. The Fox doesn't feel that much different ProPedal on or off. It seems like the Monarch is much more tuned than the RP23. Maybe it's the suspension design or what not. As for the RS forks....I love my XX's and wouldn't change them for the world....okay, I don't need the hydraulic lockout...or lockout remote for that matter but I love the damping and what little adjusting I do to get it to ride how I want. Same can't be said for my old TALAS. I think I tuned it right once...for one trail.....one ride.....
  • + 0
id way rather ride a fox than that monarch eewwwww
  • + 1
I have to say I like both of the main rivals. I have Float 160mm in front and Monarch RT3 on the rear. Float is absolutely perfect, smooth as butter forgoten on the table at 3pm and also RT3 is great. Both of those took about a month than they break in, but after that? Both are great. What you think about Monarch plus? I've heard it's perfect. Better than DHX 5.0 Air with kashima? I would like take one for my 2012 NKPRF Mega with M/M tune.
  • + 1
I would like to add that, before u beat the crap out of any brand saying that broke 2 easy and stuff, u need to know if it is the suspension or ur just lacking of skills to soft ur landings and so... Im using a mrz 4x wc since 2008 riding like there is no tomorrow here in my town, and i must say that it looks just like new, and feels 2.
  • + 5
 Elka! Nothing but the best.
  • + 1
i thought you said the best?????

hahaBig Grin
  • + 1
No DT Swiss? I haven't ridden any of their stuff but it seems really, really hard to beat at the weights they are putting out for their XC stuff. I wouldn't mind having the XMM 100 29er on a nice carbon hard tail... But that being said Fox4lyfe! I can't wait to try out my new 2013 Float 180!
  • + 1
there's dt swiss there their new carbon remote shock weighs like 150 grams
  • + 1
now there is dt swiss, in the 12 hours between the original comment and your reply, they added it, they do that sometimes when they forget an option.
  • + 1
I see that now. And a full squish 29er with one of those carbon remote shocks and an XMM.... mhmm.... or how about the 120mm version on one of these?!

Just bought a RS boXXer 200mm dh to upgrade my 180mm revelation, but haven't read much about its performance here. I can't wait to handle the new fork on real DH slopes when I get back to Peru in three weeks. I hope the boXXer 2013 model really stands out as one of the better dual crown forks out in the market. Awesome price tag. Does anyone know if I made the right choice on this one? as I started reading this thread after the purchase... {:P

I started out riding a Fox 36 Van, and though I liked it, it really wasn't until I got a Lyrik Coil found out what plush really was. IMO I think Rock Shox forks are way ahead of Fox's in virtually everyway that matters. Better small bump compliance, better bottom out resistance, plusher.... all around better.
  • + 2
In Poland both Fox & Marzocchi are quiiiite expensive.. Rock Shox has cooler prices. Personally i ride Manitou circus expert and i wouldn't change it with any RS or Marz. Manitous are underestimated hereSmile
  • + 2
Running a Fox 36 160mm in the front and Fox RP23 in the back on my current bike. My old bike runs a Rockshox Dart 3 and a KS rear shock.
  • + 7
You took a big step up.
  • + 2
My opinion is that Boxxers flex like shit. My old 160mm 36 Talas on my hardtail used to feel much stiffer. I'd like to give a try on the Totem, though
  • + 5
 Manitou Gold Label.
  • + 4
Rockshox argyle rct's.dam good forks!rockshox FTW!fox are way over priced
  • + 0
the new argyles are just updated pikes!!! rockshox changed the argyles because everyone was using their trail forks for dj use haha
  • + 1
Yeah exactly updated pikes!the pike has to be the most successful fork ever!how many people run pikes for anything from xc,4x,dj,am and fr.and now they've just been made better.do not now how.you can slate them!my forks are set at 140mm and are fantastic on all the above and dh to.so plush and adjustable and never wimp out of anything!
  • + 1
Once you try BOS you won't change it back. Creamy smooth, optimized in detail=less is sometimes more. Where is no play there is no soul. In my opinion. Respect to all brands great work.
  • + 2
RST M-29 because it was cheap and I'm broke. I desire a full Rockshox equipped 160mm bike, but in the meantime, RST.
  • - 1
fox shox can suck it. when it breaks you have to send it out for a month. rockshox parts are in stock with every major us distributor. its funny how simple rockshox is compared to the fox shit. oh and fox gives you a middle finger for customer service. sorry imo fox sucks, their stuff feels great, but their customer service warranty and actual service sucks a nut.
  • + 1
 cannondale >> lefty

funny to see that Magura is not big in USA/canada where most of ppl come from who come to this site
  • + 2
Love my Manitou internal'd, coil-sprung Lefty Max to death! Does that technically count as "other" and Manitou?
  • + 4
 White Brothers, ftmfw!
  • + 1
 FY...Added
  • + 2
Only 4 guys on White Brothers and 15 on elka..I feel really unique.
  • + 2
Poor White Brothers...atleast they were listed! I got to ride their Inverted Groove, it was dope!
  • + 0
Poor White Brothers? Poor anyone who ISN'T riding a LOOP fork on their trailbikes. And our upcoming 34mm fork is gonna blow the competition out of the water. Think outside the Fox. Smile
  • + 1
Ridden with totems and domains, just moved onto some 2013 36 vans and the blow rock shox out of the water. Fox forever, and my dhx5 is still plush as ever.
  • + 3
X fusion vengeance hlr coil and vector air hlr. Best stuff available!
  • + 1
X-Fusion for the win! i dont want to ride any other for now after riding my velvet!
  • + 1
Running a Fox 36 160mm in the front and Fox RP23 in the back on my current bike. My old bike runs a Rockshox Dart 3 and a KS rear shock.

  • + 1
Dorado in front revox in the back wouldn't change them for anything manitou all the way!!!!
  • + 1
well my main bike is ridged so thers no choice for the flex i get from my on one carbon fork ?
  • + 2
Bos for ever ! on my enduro and my DH bikes
  • + 1
Fox is the way to go for sure, for downhill nothing compares to the 40/rc4 combo.
  • + 1
The question should be What brands of suspension would you like on your bike an/or you have now?
love those questions
  • + 0
I use an Argyle RCT on my DJ, A Kash Float on my AM, and a Manitou Circus on my 4x.. and i'll soon be selling the circus.. as it's blown its seals twice
  • + 1
marzocchi z.1 in the front and manitou metel rp in the back

is a sh***t i don´t like my suspension
  • + 1
depending on which model you should be able to get some good results out of a z1, the manitou shock is allways going to be a dead weight in terms of performance though
  • + 0
Missing RST. Still one on a dirtbike. Indestructible. And Scott suspension fork on a blue Cannondale from 1994. Still going with its oneinch (sic) travel.
  • + 2
You know those Scott forks got recalled in the late ninety's right? They replaced them with Rock Shox no charge....
  • + 1
add maverick, they deserve it, and its only respectful to at least remember them
  • + 1
Love Fox. Float 36 160 in front and RP23 in back. Hopefully a Fox 40 and RC4 on a different frame here soon. Big Grin
  • + 2
Marzocchi 888 RC3 Evo V.2 fork and RockShox R2C Coil custom valve shock.
  • + 2

  • + 1
 Marzocchi 66 rc3 2010 or Z1 2007 love this forks :*
  • + 3

  • + 0
If you cant afford Fox get Rock Shox
  • + 8
Am I alone in my opinion that Fox is really, really over hyped? Ive blown 3 of their rear shocks, and have really just not been at all satisfied with their products.
  • + 5
Fox is over hyped. Don't get me wrong, their stuff are good, but not THAT much.
  • + 1
no you are not alone Fox's products are garbage and their costumer service sucks.
  • + 2
Morzine took my fox DHX from me...cracked the barrel.
  • + 0
fox's rear shocks are way ahead of rockshox and zocchi but when it comes to the front end its way closer, just comes down to personal preference and whatever you can find at the best deal tbh haha and if were talking about rear shock failures at morzine i know a guy who's vivid leaked all over the track 4 times in one season needless to say he now runs fox
  • + 1
If you haven't tried an Elka Stage 5 I recommend you do !
  • - 2
Fox is the way to go ^^also i agree keep the polls coming^^
  • + 1
I have a 36 Talas RC2 so its like another bed on the trails
