I was struggling with my brakes at the time after just starting to get more into DH riding. I was looking to get an affordable mid-range to high-range brake setup and up came the Elixir 5's. Got them in white, think they look nice for a start. I've used them on several types of terrane now and a couple different styles of mid speed/technical trails, nothing world cup size, but decent enough and they've done the job fantasically. If you had the money though, get the Elixir 7's for that extra overral finish. However for amature FR/DH, the price is white and they smash their competitors in this range out the water for me.

Perfect brake from my style of riding, nice plush feel to the lever. small blade for single or double finger braking.
nice look and finish to them. works well with a 185 rotor. i changed from the juicy 5 to these and i dont regret it. pads are easy to change too.

Great power and pretty reliable. Loved the response, power, and snappyness (dont think thats a word...). Never had to re-bleed. Downfall: broke the lever off on my first crash and ruined the entire brake. Maybe not the most durable.

Need bled extremely often. Work well with my dirt jumper, however i would not recommend them for downhill. Have completely lost my front brake going down trails due to the notorious air pockets that get trapped in the line.

Great brakes! I've never bed mine in properly but even so they still stopped me all the time!
Looks good, feels a bit squishy compared to Saints. 5*!

Very light and quiet with lots of stopping power. Performance is noticeably lower in wet conditions, but still gets the job done.

I have this brake in White, i bent the rotor, but that's just an average thing for me. Really nice brake, but might have to replace the brake pads every couple months.

Great product. Great stopping power. Worked great for a month then had to rebuild due to brake fluid leaking out of the caliper ....

Great brake, reliable, good value for money.. bleed is simple and setup is even easier! Plus it can be run euro style as well.

I put these on every bike I get. That should be a good sign for those looking to see if these are good. These have strong but not overdone power as well as good lever feel.

Super good braking power never had a problem. only downside is a slight vibration when braking that has only happened a couple times
