My current bike has a pair of juicy fives with straightline levers on them and i really like them, there powerful, have good modulation, and are pretty reliable, although after a day of technical riding in the cold at mt. washington the juicy five on my old bike had faded significantly. they might have needed a bleed or something tho as it's not a reoccurring problem. there also reasonably priced, so i would recommend them.

i didn't like avid brakes at all before i bought my bike which had them on them but i absolutely love mine now i wouldn't trade mine for hayes strokers or anything. the levers on them are beautiful just small enough for two fingers and or one but one thing they don't have is the adjustable lever like the juicy sevens though other wise for the price they are a great lever. id give it a 7.5 out of 10.

Great brakes, very good braking action, and still usable in the muck. I would highly HIGHLY recomend these brakes, extremely durable, great braking power, and just an overall great feel to the brake. Switch the fluid in these, and theyre just like new. Purchased at Overtime Sports Inc.

The Five is the basic brake in the Avid family, without the Speed Dial bite point adjustment of the Seven and its friends, but it's still a great XC anchor.

The unique steep angled Power Reserve Geometry lever gives a consistent pull in line with your natural finger movement for a genuinely 'power assisted' feel.

Masses of one-finger power and very rich feedback at all pull pressures makes the 160mm rotor more than ample for most XC applications , while the 185mm is comparable to most 200mm-plus brakes. The actual 203mm will throw you like a siege engine, although dyno testing and some mountain use show a sudden rather than gradual failure at high temperatures. However, the new Code DH brake should have that sorted.

The cup and cone CPS positioning system and two-piece lever clamp make installation easy, and pad life is excellent, too - although bleeding is awkward without Avid's syringe kit. Weight is only average, but the 'dislocating' lever helps brake and knees in crashes and the new pricing is excellent for the feel and power.
Manufacturers description
Want a rock-solid brake without the bling? Meet Juicy Five. It's got Juicy power, control, dependability, and this year it even has our famous Split Clamp design that lets you change levers without moving the grips.

Used these for some intense DH. They are very strong brakes, but when they heat up they sound very shrill. Its annoying but I guess it lets bears know you're around. Brand new they were a little hard to dial in but got it eventually.

Avid Juicy Five (MSRP $145) - If you love Power Reserve Geometry,TM Tri-Align Caliper Positioning, drip-free bleeding and our Split Clamp design, but you feel like the Pad Contact-Point adjusting knob is a bad fashion statement, then the Five is exactly what you need.

Even though I've only just got my Juicy 5 on I can tell you that it is very good. Although not properly bedded in they have great power right out the box. The lever feels silky smooth and once bedded in will make awesome one finger stopping power. However, set-up is very annoying. I got a rear brake and ready to get the front one but the rear calliper just drove me up the wall. The pads closed in on eachother because I accidently pushed it while working on it which makes pushing the pistons back some effort. Then there was a huge amount of brake rub which took me nearly an hour to sort out through the CPS bolts! At least the effort payed off. Thankyou Avid!

Very powerful brake!! Modulation is excellent, and its very easy to bleed. Pads are easy enough to change, and for the price there's nothing else you could really ask for. I use mine for all mountain riding but i know some of my friends who use them for Dh and some who use them for cross country. very versatile!!

 Absolutely fantastic brakes!
Don't follow the set-up instructions or you'll be there for days, just put them on after spreading the pistons, squeeze the lever tight while turning the while and tighten the screws - perfect set up every time.

Good brake for XC bike. Does stop the bike and is fairly powerful to allow for one finger braking. I have had them for a few years now and I have only had to bleed them once.

However, what I don't like very much is that they have very bad modulation so either the brake is fully on of completely off.

Also, do not get this for downhill!!! Only xc.

I have a set on my DH rig, and I do not like them one bit. They feel very underpowered for DH. The modulation on mine is terrible. Though I just "Recommended" this product, I DO NOT RECCOMEND THIS PRODUCT for DH! They're great for XC and trail riding, but nothing else.

brilliant performing brakes. much more feel than the hayes 9's i used previously.
the spares are easy to come by and the units are hardy enough to not need too many of those!
a very easily set up brake with the floating washer design!

Great in my single brake DJ/Street set up, very reliable set up and good feel, I really like the adjustments for the lever as well as the split clamp, makes adjusting or taking off the lever very easy without taking off the grips, good solid, reliable budget hydro brake!

I use these for the basis of my braking system. I've paired the stock resevoirs and calipers with Goodridge lines and aftermarket moto style levers. They are just as competent as the 7s and the addition of my add-ons have made them unbeatable.

amazing breaks perfect for trail and freeride but after very long wet muddy rides the performance does weaken, i would recomend these to any freeride/trail user and there a great price too!

No problems as yet, smooth and fairly easy to bleed.

Now I have to change my mind as I have had many problems including brake rub and oil leek. I am now looking into a Shimano M535

Awesome brakes. Work very well. Dot 4 and Dot 5 Liquid I think.
Drip free bleeding. I like the adjustments on the juicy sevens better but these are sweet brakes. All Avid Juicys.

i love these brakes they have decent power and they last a long time, even after using them for a long time they still feel good, instead of jamming up in the lever and not working like my friends strokers Razz

Zawaliste hamulce! Bardzo lekko działają i sa w dobrej cenie. Czasami ocierają klocki o tarcze ale mozna to szybko wyregulowac. Dobrze hamuja i wtedy, kiedy jest sucho, i wtedy, kiedy jest mokro.

This is a very solid brake. Bleed and forget, but make sure to bleed them when you buy them.

Great modulation and now with the G2 rotors the funny sounds are gone.

Quality Avid brakes.

Great brake, rides smooth like a dream but when its time for you to stop it just needs a touch of a finger and your at a stand still. Would never ride anything different and a big step up from the juicy three.

Cons:
-Factory bleed(in my case the factory bleed was poor)
