I LOOOVE this fork. Bombing over rocks and roots with this thing makes you feel like you're rolling over marshmallows. It does be come QUITE obvious that I'm on a hardtail though. Arms feel fine while the feet take a beating!

This fork is stiff, strong, and light considering how burly it is. It doesn't have many adjustments, which for me is a good thing. I don't like my bike parts to confuse me. It is virtually maintenance free and the new QR axle is sweet. It does have a very narrow gap between the top of the crown and the steertube, so a lot of frames do not clear, but you can just get a headset or a race that will accommodate for the needed extra space. This fork is amazing.

stiff, great for all mountain bikes. works well on my hardtail. sub 5lbs. stay away from the rc2 version. the rc2 damper is useless. hardly works as advertised but does do slight amounts of overall compression adjust. save money by getting the R.

best fork stickers out there. very thick.

Ok so after wrecking three forks (two Manitou and one Marzocchi) I decided to give the TALAS 36 a go. Yes it is expensive but the first day riding it I under rotated a Backflip and came up short on the jump. I think any other fork would have blown up the internals or bent the steertube but this fork is built so well that it didn't suffer any damage at all. But if you do buy this fork make sure that you run it at 160mm for most of the time, because the travel adjustment is only for climbing and not necessarily to be used for big jumps. Other than that this is the ultimate fork for the well rounded mountain biker, light strong, and incredibly reliable.

I like the well thought of details and I think the looks are great!
It's light and amazingly stiff. Adjusting the travel is really useful for steep uphills- I use it a lot.
Nevertheless I'd get a coil version next time because they perform noticably better and my fork only has 145mm of travel!!!

sweet forks, super adjustable, and super burly. the 36mm stanchions wont twist or bend so you will have the stiff super quick response that your looking for. The talas is perfect for all kind of riding thanks to its super adjustable travel dial. sweet fork, super strong, super clean.

great fork, works perfect for dirt jumping and trail riding, but don't put over 200 psi in it or you might blow out the air cartridge.

Fox Racing 36 Talas R (MSRP $1470) — The Talas RC2 is a slightly less robust version of the Float. Same air spring, just with travel adjust.

Specifications Compare to other Forks

Release Date 2009
Price $1,470
Weight 2263.42 g
Color Options Titanium
Travel 160.02 mm
Travel - refers to the distance the wheel can move in respect to the frame. Typically measured in millimeters, most forks range from 80 to 203 mm of travel
Spring Air
Crown Single
Body Type unknown
Rebound Air Spring pressure, rebound.
Rebound - is how quick your fork returns to a fully extended position after being compressed. Almost all after-market forks feature external rebound adjustment for easy fine tuning.
Stanchion material unknown
Steer Tube 1.125
Damping FIT
Damping - The process of absorbing the energy of impacts transmitted through the forks or rear shock during the compression stroke, and absorbing the energy of the spring during the rebound stroke.
DropOut Options 20mm
Compression unkonwn
Compression - This is the damping circuit that absorbs the compression energy force on the damper. Compression damping is used to adjust how quickly a fork or rear shock compresses when hitting a bump, and is adjustable on some products. When compression damping is too soft, this condition allows most of the available travel to be used without attaining control of the wheel. When it's adjusted too firmly, the wheel will jump or "dance" about when hitting small bumps, again failing to gain control of the wheel.
