It is a sick bike. It really is a big travel trail bike. Superb trail riding, rides XC well, and the DH capabilities are outstanding. The rear triangle is a little flexy, but it aint a problem. Great parts and good for riding on literally anything. This bike will not dissapoint.

 I had a 2004 Coiler Dee-Lux and I LOVED it.

It was heavy (37.6lbs), but it was the PERFECT bike for me to learn to ride technical single track. My background before MTB is BMX (dirt) and regular all mountain riding.

This Kona gave me the confidence I needed to begin riding technical single track, all-mountain freeriding, and intermediate level down hill.

This is the closest thing I could find to the Coiler Deluxe, so here's my review from MTBR...

---This bike is nice for freeride, heavy XC and AM, but don't push the drops to flat if you go downhilling. That said, I mean don't go doing anything over 10 feet to flat, by all means you SHOULD rip down the mountain at high speeds and over jumps that have landings. I was surprised at how easily the shock bottomed out on some drops (me being fairly light at 160 lbs), so it could use more travel or a heavier spring (mine is a 400) I do like the air preload feature, however. Aside from that, this bike climbs like a MOFO and if you're a hotshot XC rider that rips over everything doing 40mph, this bike is right for you. Be careful where you but the seat, if it's too low, you'll hit it with the swingarms.

---THE BAD: The dropouts are replaceable, but they'll run you at least $79 for ONE. One of my pet-peeves is quick release for anything other than XC (I just don't trust qr like I trust 20mm and 12mm after popping a skewer off my bike during a ride). If you want 12mm thru-axle dropouts, you need to buy the DOPE kit for $200 and you get a floating brake setup with it (makes no significant difference on this bike), whether or not it's what you wanted and paid for. The drive side dropout is also the derailleur hanger, and unfortunately it makes a really crappy hanger since it doesn't break when you catch a stick and you end up trashing your derailleur. Also, the threads on my dropout stripped from the derailleur bolt and it's not easy to find the right helicoil kit.

---THE SUMMARY: Basically, its a good bike for its intended use (freeride), and works well for heavy XC and AM since it climbs really well and has the right amount of travel for AM along with a propedal feature on the shock. It's a decent heavy DH frame for anyone less than 160lbs (Set your kid up with one of these instead of a Stinky Jr if you go downhilling and he'll want to come back for sure).

I have the 2008 model. the magic link is a faff to set up but when it's working its awesome! It's much lighter than my old 5 inch coiler and a lot of fun to ride, even uphill! I would definitely recommend them Smile
