Vitus Bikes, Chain Reaction Cycles’ in-house brand, has released details of the 2015 Escarpe and Sommet full suspension mountain bike range. Built around an all-new suspension platform, the 155mm Sommet and 135mm Escarpe will be available in a number of builds – all of which have been carefully put together to offer great specs. The three new models indicate that VITUS are focusing heavily on the aggressive trail and Enduro market offering both 27.5” and 29” wheelsize options.

bigquotesWe've designed the suspension points for these new bikes for ultimate performance and pedalling efficiency. The combination of pivot placement and leverage rate design offers the rider more active travel, active braking efficiency and a stable pedal platform without relying totally on shock tuning and setup. In approaching this project we also had to consider how we could integrate this design into a bike that would be both aesthetically appealing and meet the technical criteria for stiffness, weight and reliability. - Vitus Bikes R&D Manager, Dale McMullan

I am saddened by the continuing genocide of the 26" wheel.
  • 2 1
They do have a 26" wheel hardtail, the Nucleus 260. But the 2015 version it is a humiliation.

Maybe try 650B. It's a hell of a lot of fun!

650B = The only way that the industry can boost their income percentage....get everyone to jump on the bandwagon, and make everyone have to purchase all new bikes because they're going to stop making the version which has kicked ass for decades. No thanks.

Vitus--that name will always bring to mind--aluminum road bikes--but then again I'm old and Onza will always equal Racing Porcs to me.

Is is just me or is that the same exact suspension setup as the new transition giddy up style?
  • 1 0
Pretty close... fsr patent is up. It's game on
  • 8 0
Patent didn't apply to the Europe. The horst link has been used in many bikes for years over here.

Yeah, I had one of those! Stiffer than hell! Could sprint like a rabid wolf spotting a lone lamb!
  • 1 0
You're right. I meant that was why Transition's new bikes are like they are

Vitus has pedigree... maybe not in the MTB sence, but they definitely have cred. They were using aluminum before it was considered "safe"! I really like floating shock designs, this one looks killer with the modified Horst Link. That monocoque chainstay is damn cool too!

Great to see some of the awesome Irish trails getting some international exposure, especially with CRC being based in Ireland. Well, done, great vid and some interesting looking bikes.

Thats what i thought. Good looking bike but the trails look completely different to what I expected the trails to look like! Road trip time maybe...

I've never ridden that area mayself either, so might have to make some plans of my own!!!!

I thought Nukeproof was their in-house brand...???
  • 3 4
They sponsor nukeproofs world cup team, but they have a brand manufactured for/by their web dealership

They own Nukeproof, Ragley and Vitus bikes, I agree that it's a bit odd that they have two mountain bike brands selling high end suspension bikes, but so do Dorel (GT, Cannondale) and it seems to work for them.

It's kind of a different situation with Dorel. Dorel just buys up companies and goes from there. It seems that CRC is actually building brands from the ground up.

I would imagine CRC wanted to keep the existing Nukeproof Mega as it's such a popular model and at the same time take advantage of the FSR platform becoming available. This way they give consumers choice and get a bigger slice of the pie, without loosing too many sales on their existing models. What they will do when the Mega needs updating though is anyone's guess?

To me it seems like Vitus is CRC's budget brand while Nukeproof bikes have slightly better spec and higher prices. Nukeproof also has wide range of mtb's (from dj to dh) while Vitus only has bikes for the most popular categories (city, road, xc, am). In short, Nukeproof is CRC's brand for passionate mtb riders and Vitus is bikes for the masses.

Vitus also has a budget Downhill bike

Similar to what kanioni said, there is a slight sub concious snobbery in some people and to have a bike brand that makes high end and low end bikes isn't good enought for them. Having np and vitus allows crc to have a company who make high end bikes and a company who make low end bikes so they don't miss out on sales either way.

Good call carfreak. I just noticed the rrp for Sommet Pro is nearly 5k €. That's stepping on Nukeproof's toes big time.

Great bikes for price. Always get decent reviews. Colour schemes and new frame design make them more appealing to the eye aswell.
  • 2 0
Review? Anyone else interested in knowing how they stack up? At that price I'm tempted

How much is the daddy bike with the yellow wheels?
  • 1 0
£3699 if you were to look at their website Razz
  • 3 0
For that money, I'd go to Canyon.

What about YT Industries, I hear they make awesome budget bikes, $4,000 gets a full carbon, FSR link, XO1 drivetrain (1x11 0f course), RS Pike RCT3 and Mavic Crossmax Enduro wheels. Decent buy!
