“It’s a new dawn, it’s a new age” - The 2014 Duryea Urban Downhill

Hyline Productions, the Maxxis Gravity East Series and the POC Eastern States Cup present the 2014 Duryea Downhill, May 3-4 in Reading PA. The Duryea Downhill Race is held on Mount Penn and ends in City Park, Reading PA. While started as a local race in 2003 the Duryea Downhill has grown into a national event with World Cup racers in attendance.

“It’s a new dawn, it’s a new age”, says Fred Heinly of Hyline Productions. “We have done the previously unthinkable by bringing together the two largest downhill mountain bike racing series in the United States for our big event. The Duryea Downhill will be contested for the tenth time this season and we are adding new features while keeping the famous Road Gap and Bunker Gap. We are really excited to be the first race that East Coast racers can earn series points from the GES and the ESC.”

The Duryea Downhill brings the action to the masses, instead of being held at a ski resort it is contested within the Reading, PA city limits. Racers will be transported to the start in shuttle trucks Saturday and Sunday for practice, with the big race being held Sunday at 1pm.

“The POC Eastern States Cup is really thrilled to be part of the Duryea Downhill and working with the Maxxis Gravity East Series. The Duryea DH is the most unique downhill race in the country and it’s a great chance at some early season racing. This is the first race of our new Atlantic DH Cup Division and an awesome opportunity for east coast racers to score points in both series.” says George Ulmer from the POC ESC.

“The Maxxis Tires Gravity East Series is very excited to continue it's partnership with Hyline Productions and enter into a new partnership with the Eastern States Cup in the presentation of the 2014 Duryea Downhill” said Joe Olivas, race director of the 2014 Maxxis Tires Gravity East Series. “By bringing together the two powerhouses, we hope to continue a spirit of camaraderie and competition for all riders in both series for the growth of the category on a national level.”

The Duryea Downhill is a season opening mountain bike festival with tons of spectators, give aways, entertainment, Saturday night activities and a food / beverage court.. You won’t want to miss this event, so please preregister. The field is limited to the first 250 racers and a sell out is expected.

It's no BC nor does it have lifts , but it's a unique local treasure

Funny they call it a "urban" downhill even though it really only crosses the a road what, three times? It is in the city, that's for sure.
  • 1 0
Not to mention the stairs on the course, cars, retaining wall.........course changes annually.
  • 2 0
Yea I forgot about the stairs up top and the wallride. I suppose one could call it an urban downhill, I was just thinking that term was reserved for those that are all pavement.
  • 1 0
No urban features like the stairs anymore...track has definitely changed. Only things urban is the roads, a bunker, and a parking lot at the top and bottom
  • 1 0
That's is a good amount, don't know any other East Coast DH races that have a paved road, but like I said, it changes annually.

Cant wait to attend this. I won't be racing but watching it last year was a blast! Ill have to bring an old rim and handlebar to make some noise to get the racers pumped for the bunker gap!

As a PA rider I'm stoked it made home page news, but both pics aren't from the track. Nobody could find a decent road gap pic?

The pic shown is not from the Duryea Race.

They should do this while the Duryea car race is going on. It would be like Nitro Circus on Mount Penn.
