More than 180 athletes rolled into Angel Fire, NM, for Round Two of the 2016 SCOTT Enduro Cup presented by Vittoria. Day 1 of the two-day race featured perfect weather as riders took on three stages of rugged backcountry terrain in Carson National Forest. At the end of the day Scott Countryman, 24, of Flagstaff, AZ, and Kelli Emmett, 39, of Colorado Springs, CO, completed the three-stage course in the least amount of time, putting them in first place for Pro/Open Men and Women.
The race began early morning with a brutal transfer climb to the start of Stage 1. Riders then took on a 1,000 foot descent on some raw and unfiltered old-school Angel Fire singletrack.
Stage 2 was short and sweet with flowy single-track descending 300 feet into a high forest meadow.
Stage 3 transfer stage gave riders a breather with just a couple hundred feet of climbing to a seriously high-speed double track road—from huge reversal grades to high-speed drifting corners, this stage was definitely the most demanding.
Can Countryman and Emmett hold their position through tomorrow’s rugged resort day at Angel Fire Bike Park? Day 2 kicks off Sunday morning at 7 a.m.
