Santa Cruz Mountain Bike Festival 2014

They say you can never go home, and that's kind of true. Things change for sure, but some things get better. Biking in Santa Cruz is getting better all the time!

Having grown up in Santa Cruz and now living just north in Marin, I have felt a bit guilty for never attending the Santa Cruz Mountain Bike Festival. This year I was determined to make it happen. My first priority however, was to do a couple loops through Demo. That was followed by a skim session and beers at the brewery. Ok, the festival would have to wait until Sunday.

I must say the comeraderie among the riders was impressive. When I was a kid we were fighting for waves and caught up in that whole "locals only" BS. Here I saw everyone young and old from various locales helping each other out and keeping up the vibe. My helmet is off the riders of the Post Office Jumps, and the MBOSC for a well run event.

This edit was tough to make. I started with 1700 images, which I got down to about 250. That's still a lot. If you were a competitor and not posted here, feel free to contact me for the full edit. I apologize for not having the riders names but being new to the jump scene there was a lot for me to take in. That and the beer was good...

Event friendly adult beverage container. Genius!

There was a pump track competition. I should have entered. There were about five guys in my age category, so a spot in the top ten might have been possible.

Groms were killing it!

Jumps=Happy kids. A basic equation of the universe.

It's good to be a grom nowadays.

And when the light gets good; let there be jam...
