A journey to one of the most incredible cities on the planet – Follow Dominik riding his street trials bike among 23 million people living there.
Filmed in July 2013 in the old district Puxi and the business district Pudong – a contrast between rich and poor, tourist activities and business caziness. Dominik takes you to some of the most well-known sights in Shanghai and to the SMP skatepark – the worlds`s largest outdoor skatepark.

Being interested in the world around us is a marvel to explore; not a trend in modern times however. Its better that way though; generally less people are there to annoy you when out exploring nature.
Proud to be a Shanghai local rider. The city could be so fun! SMP is such an awesome place to shred. A pumptrack is under planning now inside it. The video is so inspiring and stoking! Can't wait to ride there again. Just wish I could be half skillful...
@gaoyiyang I was just out in Shanghai for a couple weeks for work and I never even thought to look for a riding scene (and I don't speak Chinese so that didn't help either). Is there anything I could check out when I come back? I don't do any street stuff but it would be fun just to go check it out, or if there's some singletrack outside the city anywhere that would be awesome too.
@bkm303 There's an awesome group and also a shop in Shanghai called DeCharme bikes. They organize one-day or two-day trip riding all mountain or downhill in many nice trails around Shanghai every weekend, and if you come to Shanghai again, feel free to go check it out. And there's also another organization in Shanghai called Supertrails, which is constituted by foreigners, I can hook you guys up if needed
@AlexWu thanks a lot, I'll probably hit you up before I come out again (won't be til summer at the earliest). Good to know where to look for next time!
Yeah! DeCharme Bikes is a really famous and professional bike shop in Shanghai, and even nationwide. You will definitely enjoy your cycling in China with them! @bkm303
@bkm303, DecharmeBikes is defo spot on, especially Lansli, great lads, I can just recommend them. Riding around in Shanghai is not as fun as it would be in some other cities, but defo worth trying out some local trails in Hangzhou, Nanjing, Ningbo. Don`t expect them to be the Alps, Whistler, SoCal or NoCal, but they are fun.... Genting Resort and Dalian is bob on, proper bike park with chairlift.
And Genting Resort has cabin lifts! But they don't have bike racks outside, so you have to push your bike into the cabin, which is a little annoying when you trying to get out on the top. But still an amazing park!
@HundredPerCent In fact, the park is not very busy. Every time I go, there are just about ten people, mostly kids riding bmx or skateboarders. Should have more big wheels! Time for MTB to invade!
Great video indeed, without VPN it can`t be watched.... By the way riding an hour in Shanghai takes 1 year off of your life, thanks to the excellent airquality. I have lost so many years already........
Luckily I've got Freegate. And come to Beijing you'll know what real bad air is. But in fall and winter the air is not bad. The most important thing is there are mountains and a MTB park around.
I have got too mate but its a bit shame...:-). Been to Beijing many times so I do know how excellent the air quality is ;-). However I have never had the chance to visit any trails over there. Best bike park so far is in Dalian, splendid place, good service but it is a hassle to get there...
Actually the Genting Resort Bike Park is also amazing. We went riding there last summer and they were just starting the cycling business. Hopefully this year it will be much awesome!
@KonaChina I was just out in Shanghai for work about a week ago! I had no idea there was any mtb around there, but I did see some decent bikes around when I was in Hangzhou. Where would I look for riding nearby when I go back in the summer?
@bkm303 You may already get invitation in the comments above from DeCharme Bikes. Also, in Hangzhou, there is another professional bike shop called 52Bike, which is a direct branch of our KonaChina. The shop is located in 4 Siyanjing, Xihu District, and really near from some awesome local trails (about 15 minutes cycling!). You can drop by next time when you are in Hangzhou. If you can't find it. Just message me and I'll tell you.
"What? you don't collect spoons? Take a walk old man..." is what they'll all be saying. Mark my words....
