Martyn Ashton: Down Not Out, Mountain Bike Party - Video

Martyn Ashton Down Not Out

Martyn Ashton is back on the bike for his biggest challenge yet – taking on the world cup course in Fort William onboard a very special bike. Refusing to take his disability too seriously, Martyn called in some of his friends for the film, which is a GMBN production.

Martyn Ashton Down Not Out

The new film and the course required a very special bike. Our friends at Canyon provided the Sender CF frame, and the guys at Mojo Suspension helped with the custom mods to create what we think must be one of the coolest pro bikes we've ever shot...

Martyn Ashton Down Not Out
Martyn bumped into a few famous faces out on the course...

We hope you enjoy the Down Not Out video and the pro bike too. We'll leave you with some words from Martyn...

"I was Down Not Out... Remember, anything is possible."

 There is but one word for this man. Legend. Absolute legend.
  • 47 2
 I really do hope that one day he walks again, he has the strength, spirit and determination to never give up, when in the darkest of places. A role model to so many.

 @acmilan1899: 100% with his attitude a roll model to all. That's love for the sport right there. I've always said biking is a lifestyle not a sport. This just pushes that even further!!! Mass respect.

 The man is a hero, and that is the sickest bike I've ever seen!

 That was quite emotional seeing Ashton back like that, probably the most important bike edit of the year.

 I saw Mr Ashton knocking about at the World Cup and I so badly wanted to go and tell him how much of an inspiration he's been to me both as a kid learning to back hop off walls at my school and now I've got my own kid! But I was so star struck (even having seen him before!) I couldn't get over my nerves. So Martyn, if you read this, keep it going dude. In a few years time when my lad can ride you'll be an inspiration to him too. Great to see you on a bike again, I hope we'll see it more often!

 We went up and said hello to him - he could not have been more of a humble guy, he made us fell welcome and nothing was too much trouble for him. A true inspiration.

 Powerful argument for E-bikes.

 Wow, forget the world cup, this just made my day, can't say how happy it made me to see Martyn powering down the course! Absolute legend - words I don't use lightly...

 in situations like this. E-bikes are amazing.

 Must be scary, over a jump into a nosedive and nothing you can do about it. Guy is a legend.
  • 6 0
 Dont get me wrong but arent you able to balance It with the torque of the rear wheel like in MX Sports? Or am i wrong?
  • 5 3
 @Nusterloo: he's got no feeling part way below his back. He said it feels like floating so he can't exactly control what the bike does if you can't feel it.
  • 1 0
 @Nusterloo: Had the same thought. Pitch control as it were. Maybe the wheel spin required is out of the range of the motor.

 This is awesome! One thought: when you're riding steep stuff or landing nose-heavy, the most important thing you can do is to get your weight as far back as possible to counter the forces trying to send you over the bars. Since Martyn's strapped to his Canyon, he can't really do this. So what if Canyon designed a sliding rail system under his seat, so that Martyn could scoot himself back and forth along the length of the bike to change where his center of gravity was?

Anyway, Martyn's a f*cking badass, well done!

 I agree. They should create a dropper seat post system that could lift him forward and lower him back to get more balance for the jumps. Awesome vid!!!

 Inspirational thats for sure. Anyone remember Grant Allen? Was big in the freeride scene until a big off left him a paraplegic. I think that was in atound 20011 or 12, not sure but i do now hes now on the world cup scene for hand cycling and is Australian champion too. Hoing to Olympics this year too i think. Met him a couple of times. Raddest dude. Always stoaked on life!

 I do remember him on an old freeride VCR tape in the collection, he was just bailing along skying jumps loving life. Good to hear that news on the circuit ! I think the clip started out with him just flat out pedaling across an open field area into a booter. Great guy and just like Martyn, another true inspiration !

 Absolutely fantastic. Hats off to Martyn and GMBN and his friends that made cameos in the vid. A true inspiration for anyone that if you love something you can still do it if you have enough will no matter the situation.

 This got me more stoked on biking than the actual race today (which says a lot because it was an awesome race). Huge props to Martin. Never say "Can't".

 Where's all the E haters now?
  • 5 5
 Don't know what you're talking about. I wish I had an ebike every time I have to pedal for more then a minute straight.

 you rang?

 If you're normal and use e-bike, you're just a lazy ass rider. Martyn has a disabality, so it's accepted.
  • 1 2
 @TroubleZone13: it is?

hmmm.

people with disabilities can't be lazy?
  • 1 0
 @stacykohut: don't generalize "lazy".
We're talking about MTB world here.
God give you perfect condition and you waste it?
What a shame dude.
  • 1 1
 @TroubleZone13: huh?

you gotta explain yourself better.

what the hell ya talkin about?

lots and lots of lazy disabled people. lots. and treated with kid gloves too.
  • 1 0
 @stacykohut

God gave me a perfect condition and He still let me to use my precious legs to pedal my bike.
Why would i waste it?

And for people with disabilities, they use e-bike just to help them, simply because they can't use their lega again.

Still don't understand?
Sorry with my bad english.
English is not my primary languange here, and i'm proud of it.
  • 1 1
 @TroubleZone13: so because their legs don't work that means they are not capable of using their arms?

and, did god take away peoples with disablities legs?
  • 1 0
 @stacykohut: Woah woah...
Wait a minute.
Is it just me that don't know people nowadays can pedal with their arms?

and, "god"?!
who is "god"?
I only believe in God a.k.a Jesus Christ
  • 1 1
 @TroubleZone13: answer the question...

did your GOD(Father,Son,Holy Ghost) take away some people's ability to use their legs?
  • 1 0
 @stacykohut

I can't answer that.
I'm just His creation, only He knows the answers.
You're the one who should ask Him.

Holy Ghost??!!
May God bless your soul my friend.
  • 1 1
 @TroubleZone13: see, now you just proved my point.........
  • 1 0
 @stacykohut
Woah wait a sec bruh.
Did you ever see i agree with your silly opinion?

I don't like e-bike as i don't like 29er.
If you like e-bike (or even both of them), it's your choice.

I just wanted to tell, be grateful that God still love us, never waste what He gives to you.
In my case, i still have healthy legs, healty lungs, and healthy hearts.
FYI, i'm using it to the fullest right now.
