6th March 2016 was the start of the Downhill season for most of the UK. PORC (Penshurst Offroad Club) is a hugely popular location in the South of England where there are regular uplift days available.
It was a cold but sunny day on the hill. The wind conditions on top of a hill meant it was freezing and all the spectators were wrapped up warm, unlike the racers who had to brave the cold in their kits. The track was waterlogged and sloppy with mud in some parts due to the heavy rain the day before. This meant tough riding conditions as the mud was slippery and hard to ride through.
Run discussions and line choice tactics. The fans came out in force covered in warm clothes for the cold day ahead. The youngest category 'Little Rippers' were all helping each other out and shredding harder than ever to start the new season. The aim for practice was to pick out the best lines through the soggy and wet track. As the track was so rough and wet, the course kept changing and adjusting to the warmer weather and more riders going down each time. The fast top section made for some sketchy and scary moments for riders in the wet.
Race time:The Jenner brothers were on top form this weekend!Rhys Jenner with a podium to start the season.Pushing hard for a good time, Rhys slid out on the wet off camber corner right before the finish. Riley Jenner took a win in his category and 5th overall. The berms at the top of the track took no prisoners and were a struggle for a lot of the riders. This berm became a popular place after the fast, rough rock garden combined with the wet mud.The start of the track was very boggy and sticky which meant clearing the first big table was hard for everyone. The rock garden was a place for all manner of noises both from the bike and the riders! The sun came out and dried up the track, this made for an interesting and competitive third and final run.It was a close race with all the riders interested in where they could improve their times.Riders sprinting for the finish with that last burst of energy.Podium time.Categories:Young RipperWomenJuvenile MenYouth MenJunior MenSenior MenMaster MenVeteran MenExpert/EliteFull Results here.Check out the Whisper Bikes team report
