Men's Pro Podium (L-R) Beaumont (4), Hannah (2), Steve Smith (1), Needles (3), Mark Wallace (5).

Final check: Ben Reid testing spoke tension before loading up for his shot at $10k.
During the final practice on the DH track this morning, this stone crept out - right in the middle of a "must hit" berm. I just know this bastard gave someone a bad race...
Rachel Atherton has been enjoying her time here in Whistler. She practiced on the Open track, but ultimately opted to not race... Possibly her shoulder has been bothering her? A week's worth of riding will tend to do that to anyone, let alone the one Rachel hammered the crap out of when she collided with that car during a training accident three years ago.
Jared Graves sending it one last time before lunch, a nap, and game time for the Canadian Open.

What is not immediately apparent in this photo is that the rock Stevie is pinning it down is too steep to walk down.

MS-Mondraker's Brook Macdonald keeping loose after his win at Val d'Isere. Bulldog has swapped out the zero stem of the Mondraker in favor of a 45mm stem, feeling that it gives him more control when things get wild.
Strobel keeping it wide open through the roots and duff, and making it into 10th spot.
Jack Reading ended up in 13th spot at the Open.
Luca Shaw is killing it this year, and he may not even be 16 years old yet. Second place in slalom, and 21st in the Open DH. Watch out for this kid!

Unfortunately Myriam Nicole took a digger yesterday and was out of the Canadian Open that wrapped up the Crankworx week. She's sustained a broken collarbone--requiring surgery--and will be out for World Champs at the start of September (and likely Norway, too).
Jack Ohare coming down early on in the Pro Men's event. When the sun was coming through the trees it was easy to see just how dusty it really was...
Alastair Fowler came up a hair short on a gap jump near the bottom of the track during training and rattled his cage but good. The stunned rider from the UK was shook up but philosophical: "Looks as if I will need a new helmet."
Nick Beer pinned for a cold one at the bottom.
Luca Shaw getting to it during the Pro DH.
Fairclough and sushi have a daily love/love relationship in Whistler Village. Likely Brendog's weeklong bill at Sushi Village looks like my monthly Pinkbike paycheck!
Austin Warren slamming a crusty, dusty corner below the first road gap on the Open Track. Bubba ended up 29th on the day, a pretty solid result at the open.
You want traction like the gods in this dusty, root and rock infested playground? Forget about durability. If it ain't 60 durometer rubber, it's toast after a proper vacation to Whistler--these tires are a week old.
Whistler's hard on bikes. Suspension gets pounded to pieces, and brakes need bleeding. Especially after multiple days of full tilt Garbanzo Boogie!
You want your bike worked on? 32C (90F) in the shade means the mechanics in the pro pits were treated to a never ending supply of slushy drinks to beat the heat from their riders.
The main 3 high lights of the mens race 1.Smith taking win by almost 5 sec,2.Duncan Riffle cracking some beers at Hecklers Rock with the crazy fans & 3.That handicapt rider from South America what an inspiration for mountain biking.Other than that Redbull did an awesome job with the camera's for a fantastic Live feed.
You mean that rider with a handicap, person first language my man. The "disability" if the person even considers it that, doesn't define the rider.
But regardless, Smith was on a rampage this Crankworx! I wonder if this will be the start of a long-running winning streak of him being the king of Crankworx because he was untouchable this year. And yeah despite lack-luster coverage of some previous events, Red Bull went all out on this. It was possibly the best online coverage of any race I've seen.
I can't believe that I, a citizen of the USA living in the desert southwest posting on a Canadian website, get to post up that Stevie has pulled off a Crankworx hat trick!
Last year the winner of the opening ProGRT race in Port Angeles (Danny Hart) was the world champ, this year Steve Smith won the ProGRT race, topping Gwin. Will he do it again and take the world champions jersey? I am a Gwin fan but Steve is one of the coolest guys out there. Its going to be and amazing race.
Mick and Steve killed it! And they were killer guys to talk too as well. :-)
Sad also that I saw a number of busted up people as well. Chris Kovarik had some nasty rash and Myriam Nicole had an arm in a sling. And the list goes on....
It was awesome to see Steve do so well all week. The celebration afterward was epic too!
Glad I didn't ride today and just hung out and watched the racing. That's tomorrow :-)
No Mechanicals, no flats, no mistakes....Hit the trail and the gym Steve and pummel Gwin next year! Make B.C and Canada proud! Anyone who has tried to ride Garbanzo top to bottom at race speed know how much of a feat this is. Amazing..The Whistler DH run is easy compare to that...Where is Gwin by the way? Would have been interesting, hometown advantage vs WC winner..Steve might have ridden these trails once or twice, unlikely the fastest in the world could have beat him. Congrats Steve!
I think he's learned how to win! And this last week has probably cemented that in his head. After this performance I think he's now in the company Minnar, Atherton, and Gwin. I would love to see him beat these guys more then once next year.
Watching Smith's run was highlight of Crankworx as entire mountain went off.
Does anyone know the name of the rider in yellow jersey who went massive off the last hit and started over rotating in air so he swung right leg over to straighten out and ended up landing one footed?
or crankworx... he's stuck with sea otter and gwin isnt your man in this race seeing as he wasnt there, we'll see when full results are in how low down your man finished... we already got #1 and #5

Yeah! Everyone went nuts! Even dogs were barking!.
