Nope, by not competing today and quitting he lost alot of respect from me. He could have raced but didn't since he already won the title. Maybe he wouldn't have won, but he could have been competitive. I'm also fed up with his too nice, boring Christan demeanor. This is a violent, adrenaline fueled sport, show a little personality. I became a born-again Christian because of him, but I'm over it, religion gives you too easy of answers when the realty is that life is complex.
Gwin's on top of that podium, but what did he do today? Just walked around and smiled, and didn't come clean about "Gwingate".
dude, what? you take your life beliefs from someone you have never met or anything, just because hes a fast rider, then say hes lost your respect (like he needs it) for not competing, but why should he? whats the point in risking injuring himself for the sake of it? and its not a violent sport, MMA or kick boxing are violent sports, we have no (intended) contact with each other, were not hitting each other or anything, and any injuries are your own fault. the adrenaline bit ill agree with, but everyone has theyre own off bike demeanour, thats just gwins.
Protour, most of what your saying is bollocks, but I think that gwin should have raced aswell, like peaty back ages ago, when he had a injury, but had already won the overall, so made that beer helmet to race in.
Protour wins with a late storm, displacing WAKI from Top Sarcastic Poster position.
Meanwhile, thousands of confused PB readers think satire and sarcasm are "trolling," and imagine the discussions at PB to be Serious, Life-Changing Stuff.
Sarcasm includes intent, but the intent isn't what the listener/reader assumes it to be. I'm pretty sure I know sarcasm. It's not trolling, that's for sure. Trolling is done to disrupt serious discussion. What's serious about PB discussion? The intent to show fanboi status?
sar·casm   [sahr-kaz-uhm] noun 1.harsh or bitter derision or irony. 2.a sharply ironical taunt; sneering or cutting remark: a review full of sarcasms.
As I say that isn't Protour. He's just an idiot. He isn't trolling either as far as I can tell - he just writes what he believes which seems to be exactly what winds everyone up. Sure PB discussions aren't life changing but if you are going to post on a forum surely you expect people to agree or disagree with you and comment on what you say - otherwise what's the point of having a forum/comments section? Personally Protours evangelical brand of BS makes my skin crawl.
Pauly, thanks for cut-and-paste because you don't know what sarcasm actually is. If you don't understand sarcasm, then just post the definition, and imply that posting the definition is the same as understanding how sarcasm works IN PRACTICE.
cyrix, blanket statements about someone else are what's pathetically wrong.
I agree, stats are better for Rachel, but keep in mind Fort Bill, she won qualis, but not finals, and Ragot won finals but did not place in quails
But still, great season for both of them!
That shot of the five top blokes is pure gold. The variation in direction of eyes and facial expression, not at all posed for. A great shot, really getting some personality across. That's one of the shots of the year for me, off the wall and totally out of left field.
Top marks to that photographer!
Congrats to GT, got fond memories of riding my GT Pro Performer BMX back in the early 90's, it was the best BMX money could buy then, i loved it. Cant wait to see what they do with mountainbikes in the coming years.
Hate the word 'stoked' but i am so stoked to see Rachel winning, so much effort to come back from injuries- she's owned the rest of a very cometitive and talented field of competitors- respect!
I think Peaty and Hill killed it on the WC over a period of years. True, Peaty hasn't fired on all cylinders since that worlds win, but let's face it he's pretty old and he's got kids. That's why Hill has slowed down too, not because he won the worlds a few times.
Hart won the worlds twice in four years (one junior) and was ripping in the WC until he damaged his shoulder this year. He would have been 4th overall if he did a full season.
Luis Bruno is a beast. Dunno if he's any faster than Troy though, Troy's only one year ahead of him. Both sick guys, I reckon there will be some close fought races between the 2 of them in a few years time.
It's only stupid if you think he's serious. Since this is just MTB discussion, why are you taking it so seriously? I find Protour the most entertaining poster at PB.
I find Gwin's personality boring, though his race results are not boring! His personality strikes me as similar to someone who used to be wasted all the time on meth, found God, and now devotes everything to Jesus. His race results can't be challenged though!
Did Tracey Hannah really still achieve 4th? That's pretty good going seen as she missed so many races. What happened to Peaty? He must have come off to land back in 71st.
If Rachel Atherton would have been DQ'd at Windham, like she should have, Emmiline would have been the overall winner. I feel bad for ER, she's the winner in my book.
World champs is a 1 off race, the world cup is a series. I don't know if you do leagues and cups in the big american sports, but generally in football (soccer to you guys) there is a league and a cup in each country, its kinda like that deal you know
Gotcha, thanks... It only seemed goofy to me because they are both UCI...our big sports here have 1 league with 2 divisions, each division with their own championship, then those 2 divisional champs will play each other for the league championship...thanks for explaining! Even the AMA supercross lites series is like that...east and west then the season closes with an east vs west championship in Las Vegas
The one off world championships is a joke in my opinion. The world cup champ is the best rider based on consistency of performance, not luck, and therefore should be the world champion. A ten race world cup season with the overall winner crowned champion would have much more relevance.
They could select one race to carry double points if they really want to hang on to the archaic one day worlds principle. Do that for ten years then drop the double points from the double points race.
I mean next year, PMB worlds, everyone's most hated course (except Minnaar and thats only because it's his home race and he goes well there, not because he actually likes the track). Real bike handlers, you are shit out of luck. Everyone break out dropper posts and pump your tyres up to win the DH world championships. That's not cool.
I still like it because it's a special race, puts a lot of pressure on the riders in that one race since it's so important. It's cool that there are 2 seperate titles, makes the sport more interesting. But yeah, PMB should not be World Champs course.
ridenflow: If you follow hockey, think of it as kind of like regular season champion (World Cup) and Stanley Cup champ (World Champs), but regular season champ does have prestige in DH. Not the best example, but you get the idea, they're different things.
World Championships is unrelated to World Cup. The riders who contest the win tend to be similar, but you can win the World Champs without ever winning a single World Cup race, and you can win every single World Cup race while losing the World Champs.
In the World Cup they represent themselves, and their sponsors.
In the World Champs they represent their country.
I agree that its stupid that the winner of one race (the worlds) carries the title of "world champ" which is given as much if not more weight than winning the overall world cup, which everyone has to agree is a better determining factor of who the best rider is.
But with that said, I like the way it is. Even though its stupid and doesn't make sense, its makes the season more interesting. I mean take this year for instance. GWin had the overall wrapped up prior to the World Championships, but the Worlds still go off like the super bowl with everyone from the riders and the media amped through the roof for it. I mean to me as a fan, two "championships" up for grabs each year just provides the opportunity for more exciting and compelling racing to watch.
I think it's this was because it run by the UCI and in other cycling disciplines, i.e. road cycling, they have different races that aren't part of a series (The Tour de France, Giro d'Italia etc.), so there is not a title which is the equivalent to the World Cup Champ.
Wow it's not even about that, lol. Taking stuff way to serious here guy!
I just happen to like Gwin and don't care if he's american, mexican, black, chinese, white from russia, europe.or where ever. He's just a bad ass dude all around who knows how to smash a race!
Gwin's on top of that podium, but what did he do today? Just walked around and smiled, and didn't come clean about "Gwingate".
Steve Smith is the man for next year.

But she's not. Sang froid indeed.
Can't wait for the 2013 season...are we there yet?
