Sequence Saturday 39

Nov 16, 2012 at 12:23
by Ian Hylands
bigquotesI watched Tom van Steenbergen pull this fronty tuck a few times over the weekend, and I pretty much knew he was going to do it in best trick. I shot a couple of good singles of him all stretched out, but to me they didn't really show how big this jump was, so I shot a full sequence. Here it is, check out how long he holds it for... - Ian Hylands

bigquotesI learned how to front flip a year ago, I've gotten better and better at them and they just feel natural now. Front flip variations on big jumps are just so much fun and they get scored pretty good as well. The bigger the jump is the more fun it is to front flip and it makes it easier too! This was my first year at AT's showdown and it was awesome... everything about it is good; sun, no pressure, lots of practice, lots of bro's, it's just a good time. . - Tom van Steenbergen

"Because he's the hero that biking deserves, but not the one it needs right now... and so we'll push him... because he can take it... because he's not a hero... he's a silent maniac, a watchful entertainment... a Gnar Knight..."

I think Jimi Hendrix summed up this sequence best: "Excuse me while I touch the sky"
[Reply]
  • - 14
At least take the time to get the quotation right. He actually says "Excuse me while I kiss this guy"
[Reply]
  • + 6
dirktanzarian, you're an idiot. He says "Excuse me while I kiss the sky." How about you take the time to get the quotation right???
[Reply]
  • + 1
Yeah, I realized that after I posted, think I just got caught up in the moment because in the frame where he's fully extended it looks like he's grabbing some sky.
[Reply]
  • + 1
supposedly, he wanted it to sound like "this guy" to get out of the draft. music trivia of the day right there
[Reply]
  • + 1
Nah he just did it as a joke, even pointing at his bandmembers while saying it, nothing to do with the draft though.
[Reply]
  • + 3
Wow. This board is staggering. I've always kind of taken the point of view that if you have to explain your joke, you're probably better off putting your efforts someplace else.

And then, dude who calls himself blkmrkt22 sends me a message calling me a f*ggot? Man. This place is unbelievable. I mean...are there really 21 other blkmrkt's out there?

Thats crazy how people behind him are passing by without excitement! They are doing their stuff... "who cares that there is a man doing freaking BIG front-flip tuck... it's just another typical day in my life" ... You lucky bastards! =D

this just shows how much the sport has progressed recently. a few years ago a frontflip would have won you a best trick comp by itself.

This is what evolution will never be able to explain: how we went from hunting our food and living in caves to to flying upside down with our arms spread out...
[Reply]
  • + 1
Hunting food and living in caves also required running to avoid being food... Among other things. Our adrenaline requirements have to be met somehow, right? Wink I fully support this adrenaline quota fulfillment.

i remember how not so long ago before mountain biking had really taken off like it has today how the very best pros would land a jump like that without any tricks. just strait up. and they were heroes for it. but now everything gets tricked except for the massive hucks. its amazing to see this kind of progression in a relatively short period of time. makes you wonder whats to come. i cant wait to see how big we can take this stuff in the next few years. its the brave riders like Tom van Steenbergen who are going to push the sport further and further, and im super stoked for it!

I ownder how many times he crashed learning this, you don't really think about the learning curve when you see pro's stomping huge tricks. In my life i would be lucky to try even a front flip into a foam pit i'll almsot certainly never take it to dirt.

I love how people think that typing a joke into the comment bar is the way to win.... It's the best comment about the photo/trick.... Where on earth does it say best joke lol I love how he learned this trick a year ago and can already tuck no hander it like a boss......I can't even tuck no hander.....

If fhe rider attracts the Earth because the Earth attracts the rider, his mass spinning must have caused a shockwave somewhere. I bet a Chinese gardner was standing inside a rice pool when his cone hat went off without a visible reason. This is serious ! You think this whole riding is fun and poeple in China are trying to work their living. Beware !

Progression: a passing successively from one member of a series to the next; succession; sequence. For Tom It's a 365 day job....and in this case exactly just that. Nice work! Wonder what the next year will bring!! Front Tuck corked 360 no hander?? Only time will tell...
