Sequence Saturday 40

by Ian Hylands
Gee Atherton had a pretty sick little sniper line he was working on at Rampage this year, a decent sized step down gap over a few rocks and into an almost postage stamp sized landing. It looked tricky, but definitely doable, especially for someone like Gee. After a bunch of work on the run in and a few practice runs he hit it, and came up just a little bit short, smashing into the rocks he needed to go over...

Wearing armor is like wearing condoms. Sure, it reduces the risk of unforeseen consequences, but it feels soooooo much better without it.

There once was a young and little boy called Chris, who took far too many a dangerous risk, for bikes and girls he had affection, but he never wore any protection, for a while his life was nice, but the he had to pay the price. After he broke all his ribs and he had 12 kids, poor Chris was left to reminisce ...

I like BLIPs comment but it promotes not wearing armor, so I don't see the sense in awarding the prize to such a comment when the prize is body armor. Condoms are kinda the obvious analogy here anyway. Epic had the right idea, just try to spell your shit right next time brah.

Since this is about wearing protection then I would agree that it's important. I have recently had my article published in MBUK. I wrote in to the magazine to try and encourage people to wearing protection because when I was 12 I was dirt jumping mad had no knee pads on and hyper-extended my knee. I wound up in hospital for a week and had to have 2 operation and 6 months of physio. The second operation went a little wrong and I nearly had to have my leg amputated. So to all the people who aren't reading those comment because it's long and unfunny I hope you see how one stupid mistake nearly put my in a wheel chair for the rest of my life. I now never ride without being strapped up.

I am an advocate for protection too. I am glad you shared this. People take their good health and fortune for granted and some go to the extreme of thinking they're invincible. People need to face the fact that our sport is dangerous and we all have limits. Wearing protection doesn't make you less of a man or less of a rider, it just means you care about yourself.

I was at a DH track and a guy had his dick ripped off on a tree stump, do they have a DH cup yet Frown
  • 3 0
Although protection might go a long way in preventing injurie's it won't help when it comes to things like some types of hyper extention's and breaks from high impact accidents. I know this from experience so just cause u have a bit of padding won't make u invincible just remember that. Oh and dumest question i get asked often is "Y do u wear a helmet?" lmao really? . Do u need me to launch a watermellon at a tree that may explain it a bit better for you LOL!
  • 1 0
I freaking love my protection, I'm the the guy that people bring along to strap their GoPro to watch me crash and add to their crash sequences..... I usually land on my head first and have only had serious injuries when not wearing gear. I don't see how dropping into any of the Rampage lines not wearing every piece of protection in your stash is even cool by Redbull standards. The risk of crashing is always there, no matter if your bike has just been fixed or what, there is no reason in my opinion not to wear it....
  • 2 0
I used to ride with just a helmet, riding gloveless with shorts and a tshirt. I used to think bleeding was part of the fun. I used to think I could crash and I would be fine. That I would be back on the bike within 3 days.
Then I crashed and shattered my collarbone into 7 large shards. I'd never broken a bone before. I had to go to countless ortho doctors, and finally 3 weeks later had surgery and 6 stainless steel screws and a plate put in my shoulder. I haven't ridden in 47 days, when I used to ride every single day. I know that this crash changed my life. I can't stop thinking about what I'm missing by being disabled and off the bike.
So, although protection may not have helped my shoulder, I know that now when I can finally be able to ride, I will be wearing kneepads, gloves, the helmet that covers the most of my head, and anything else that will protect my (I know now) fragile body.
  • 1 0
i broke me collor bone luckily for me it was just a clean brake, cant imagine what its like for you
  • 1 0
It was a distal compound fracture, and the end piece went down into my shoulder while the main collarbone part was sticking up trying to poke out of my skin, all good now, except for the no riding part.
  • 1 0
Just curious, AlynPawlin.... How would a knee pad prevent you from hyper-extending your knee?
  • 1 0
Because I hit the ground so hard with my knee it bounced up and snapped backwards (hard to think it's possible but I'm living proof it is). Knee pads would not of stopped my leg snapping upwards but it could of slowed the rate I hit the floor so maybe there wouldn't of Veena enough force for the bottom of my leg to bend upwards.

 The math of crashing

(Crashing + protection ) x ( trying again+ perserverence) = improvement

(Crashing - protection ) x (inability to try again + hospital visits) = no improvement

"he hit it, and came up just a little bit short, smashing into the rocks he needed to go over"

As far as I understand it he didn't come up short at all but took the complete wrong line smashing in to a cliff rather than passing beside it!

If I hadn't been wearing a helmet & body armour I probably wouldnt be here now. Fortunatly I only ended up with concussion, cuts & bruising. I was riding at Cwmcarn & binned it on a jump. I hit my head so hard I put a hole in my helmet. Now I need a new one Frown

My advice is; "keep a lid on it"

a wise man once said "there is no armor that can protect you from fate" i say "there is no armor that can protect you from a redbull and it's rampage, it's skills, balls, and a little fate in which brings the warriors home safe from the battle of the beast.....long live the warriors of Rampage"

I have no iDea why more pro riders use more body armer. expecaly at the red bull rampage i keep seeing them only wearing tee shirts and knee pads. their going so HUGE and risking their lives and all they have is a tee shirt and little nee pads.

I have a comment/question for everyone. I'm going off of memory here, so every number might not be exact. We had a 2 year study done here, Whistler, specifically on mountain bike park injuries. If I remember, over 80%+ of the injuries were upper body and it went on to talk about how no one wears upper body protection. Of all the people I ride with and see in the park I would say that is an accurate number as to the amount that only wear knee pads.
Of almost every crash I saw at Rampage, every crash I have ever had and every crash I have seen on a DH bike, I have seen maybe a couple pro level riders actually knee slide out of something on a smooth dirt jump. Most crashes involve ragdolling like Gee's.
I guess my question is, given the nature and speed of DH riding and the knowledge that most injuries are upper body why do most people not wear it? I realize it won't stop all injuries but surely it has to help lessen impacts? Is it simply a "restrictive" issue or a "style/cool" factor or a combo? I would take some beef jerky on my knees before blunt force to the spine any day.
  • 2 0
Sounds interesting snowsnow. One interpretation of the data might be that there's more upper body injuries because so many people wear leg armour/knee pads. What do you think? I don't know anything about the study you mention, but I do work with statistics quite a bit in my job. You don't really mention enough in your post do draw any conclusion really, but I think your point seems likely also, and compatible with mine. So if most people wear leg armour/knee pads, and most injuries are upper body, a) the leg armour may well be serving its purpose which suggests b) upper body armour should be used more often to reduce upper body injuries.

Personally I wear body armour mostly, but one of the few times I didn't last year I went OTB and took the nub of a broken branch on a fallen tree right to the centre of my chest and busted my sternum. Looked like an alien was poppin outta me, it was pretty funny. Fortunately the tree was old and the nub was blunt, otherwise I'd almost certainly have opened myself up and been in big trouble. Needless to say, I wear body armour for anything significant now...

Great point Natbrown. Could very well be that knee/shins are doing there job. Shin pads, in my experience and from asking my friends that only wear knee /shins, and mostly just knee, seem to help more with the superficial stuff like pedal rakes etc. Not one of the people I've talked to could recall sliding out on their knees from a fall on a DH bike. Dirt jumping is a different story I would think. I'll see if I can find the article and post a link. It was some food for thought as I've been curious as to why it seems the majority only wear knees.
I found the report and as I thought, wipeout induced memory problems have a few of the numbers changed but you'll get the point. Lol

Whats also surprising is the amount of head injuries while wearing a helmet. I wonder if they were fullface or XC style?
  • 1 0
From what i have heard snowsnow is that the harder armour increases you chances of collar bone breaks. This was a ski patrol guy who told me this. I dont know if it is true. Even if it is still would rather have a broken collarbone than a punctured lung...
  • 1 0
what harder armor? i just broke my collarbone wearing only a helmet si i want to know.
  • 2 0
Wearing protection doesn't prevent injuries. It helps a whole lot increasing your chances of surviving a fall though. One of my friends failed a bunny hop over a 3 feet high chain while wearing full body armor/helmet/knee and shin pads (he really had everything except a neck protector) and he broke his neck because he fell on his head. According to many specialists, he should have died before he got to the hospital. A couple of years and several different doctors opinion later, even though he wasn't ever supposed to get out of the hospital again because he is now paralysed from his neck to his toes and on an assisted respirator, he lives at his parents home and coaches basketball at a local university. The guy never lost his will to live and now tells me from time to time: "Keep in mind that a calculated risk, is still a risk, and that the best way to live (or ride) is hard but safe. Even though you ride more than once a week, you don't live twice". I have seen an earlier post by bobbike1 about how Pro riders don't wear that much protection while doing such hardcore riding and I can't help but agree. One thing we have to ask ourselves is: Do I really feel like doing this feature with no protection, just like that guy who's been doing it for a while now and who's paid to ride, but also to crash an recuperate?
  • 1 0
I'm from Sherbrooke and i saw that on the news a couple of years ago. At that time i was bunnyhoping chains all the time, even the chain your friend fell on. Since that day i never jumped a chain without thinking about your friend and i don't jump chains that i feel risky anymore. I never bunny hoped that chain again and every time i go there i can't stop thinking that it could have been me...

After watching "Where the trail ends", with all the crash scenes, the hospital visits, the healing time (which we never see on any video), you realize these super heroes that we idolize, are just mere humans too. They break bones, separate shoulders, get concussions, the list is probably endless. They probably crash as much as the next guy, just when they do it, as above, it's always so well documented from every angle. What separates them from the rest of us, is they get back up and do it again and again until its perfect, where most of us would just be glad to be alive and say " I'm never doing that again!!! Props to Gee

After having watched "Four by Three" and see how Gee was able to stand up of this crash, that sequence is just the proof that if you want to go big and keep going big, you have to wear protection.
  • 1 0
Without risks we wouldn't be where we are today, going big or going home. But I say to all those who say "I don't need a helmet, I've never fallen off"...

JINXS! Now put on that helmet and put some pads on while you're at it.

last night a friend and i were riding some street and there was a curb we were jumping. it was getting dark and visibility was poor and when my friend went to jump it he didn't realize how hight the curb was so his back wheel clipped it and sent his sliding along the ground on his face. he has braces so the totally ripped up his mouth and he wasn't wearing a helmet so he really bumped his head. at first w thought he had lost some teeth but there was so much blood you couldn't see a thing. If he hadn't been wearing knee pads (which hit the ground first and save his face) he would be in the hospital and he would probably never be able to ride again.
  • 1 0
I think that riding hard every time you go out clearly defines the need to wear appropriate body armor. If I'm really pushing it I'm going to fall every time I go for a ride, so I always go with a helmet, gloves, and knee/shin guards. When I'm pushing beyond my limits with a new feature or technique I wear more protection. If I'm trying something completely new I prefer to be able to get back on the bike after a wreck, thereby learning from my mistake and immediately overcoming my fear. I want to keep riding and if wearing an extra pad or two will help me do that than I'm all in.
  • 1 0
I wear my armor and leatt whenever I go out free riding, but sometimes the unexpected does still happen. I wasn't clipped in hitting a drop on turkey day, and now I have a busted collarbone. My season pass to mt bachelor is gonna hate me..
  • 1 0
When you wear the proper protection for the type riding you are doing , the " I crashed and stuffed it " story is told to your riding buddies : not the abulance attendant or emergency room staff who are putting you back together.

Id rather go home a little sore than lay in emergency in agony. Life is to short to let your pride stop you from gearing up. Take it form a older rider.....wear the gear, and ride untill you are old and grey
  • 1 0
I have a suitable real life story for this:
When I started riding few years ago I was wearing shin protection, helmet, gloves (basically everything I was able to get at that time). There was a long period of time when I wasn't crashing at all. One day I have decided to stop wearing protection at all, as is didn't make sense (obviously, it was a really stupid idea, but I thought it makes sense). I went for a ride and did put my protection on just by default. When I realised I actually did that, I told myself that this is the last day I am wearing all that stuff.
That day I found amazing stair set - I needed to drop that one. Obviously, I would not be telling this story - I have slipped from one of my pedals and it came back to me so hard, that it did hit straight through my shin protection. I was bleeding under it. I can't even imagine how I would feel if I would not be wearing shin protection that day.

I was able to learn without doing a big mistake, I just got lucky, but that was enough anyway. I am very careful now and I am getting as good protection as possible. I have some protection still missing, but I am working hard on it to get full body armour in place.

I hope this story will inspire people to wear a protection and not to do stupid mistakes.
Thanks!
  • 2 0
Similar thing happened to me. I drove my knee into a massive rock and my knee bled underneath the knee guards, and they're the alpinestar moabs. I'll never go riding without them as I'm sure I would have destroyed my knee.
  • 1 0
Armor is the type of thing that you know in the back if your mind that you shud wear it but you don't but with armor that's affordable and comfortable you can flip that new road gap you have been looking at and when it doesn't come all the way around you have the courage to do it again instead of calling it quits while lying in a hospital bed .
  • 1 0
i've been doing extreme sports since i remember and had pretty gnarly crushes been in the hospital for days, broke my entire right side, arm (skiing), knee in two parts (DH), fingers (skiing), scapula (longboard) and others in many different accidents and was always the same mistake.... no protections and taking risks above my level of riding knowing that i cuoldn't do it at that specific time. well that didn't stop me because you fall, get back up and learn why it happened and how to prevent it (or try to) next time. i could go on and on tellyng stories, so long story short, now i became a little more wiser and i still have accidents but no bigger consecuences thanks to that, my protections and the fact that mother nature told me that it would kick my ass and send me to F%&$" physiotherapy for months again. so natural progession is the way to go, the years would teach you how and when to do risky things. summing up and quoting the little green guy, with knowlege and understanding the limits you push.
  • 1 0
I've been riding for about 12 years and these days I dont wear much body armour except knee pads and a good full face helmet. But in the early days when I was learning and trying to level up and ride like my heroes in those bike videos, i'd wear lots of protection. Wearing armour gave me a false sense of confidence and invincibility. I remember back in 2005, i bought a Beast Gear upper body suit and It was the first time I had ridden Wild Cherry on Cypress. The entrance of the trail has a feature called "chilli dog" and to the left of it was a small cliff with about a 12 foot drop onto a stair case. There was a random dude shooting photos and with the confidence my new flack jacket gave me, I hit that cliff drop, landed, bucked hard and was thrown over the bars backwards into a tree upside down at a pretty good velocity. Thanks to the armour, I shook it off like a champ. So my point is, if your going to push the envelope it is better to wear the protection and not need it, than to not wear and need it. Ride to survive.

The EVOC Protector Vest Air+ with its patented technology gives you the best protection while feeling like your not wearing any. It gives you the next closest feeling to the true experience. So when the trail looks sketchy and you're confidence is low you can trust that EVOC will keep you covered. Be smart practice safe riding.

People say protection is not cool but it is. I never ride downhill without a neckbrace, and honestly they are cool. Most of the fast guys wear them. Protection is good. Helmets save live, neckbraces save necks, chest protectors save chests.
  • 1 0
Gloves are cheaper than micro surgery. Knees don't work so good without all their bits. No matter how good your plastics guy is, you're probably never going to be pretty again. But at least if you crush your spine they'll give you a really generous payment plan, you can pay for it everyday, forever. There's nothing 'Progressive' about learning to walk or talk again, your core probably isn't as hard as you think...I hope Evoc's got your back.
  • 1 0
Remember when your riding, what you do, what you do or don't wear for protection will affect more than just YOU. You may be the "BEST" rider in the world and "NEVER" wipe out....but remember, something on your bike may break and that's when you will NEED the protection. Think of who you will affect.....
  • 1 0
When you reach the age when your freinds start to die one by one of weird ailments, before they accualy start to live (retire) you wander what you are waiting for. Life is short as it is and there is no time like now to do the shit you want to do, if that means wearing armor to reduce the road/dirt rash and going for the big one you always wanted, do it now, if you think you can do it without armor, do it too.
Armor won't stop you from breaking, it will only reduce the shredding.
  • 1 0
Crashes are inevitable. It's part of the sport. Its a risk we accept and are willing to take every time we get on our bike. But anyone who's ever crashed and was wearing the proper protection won't complain about the protective gear saving their head, back, knees, elbows, or neck. It's the person who didn't choose to wear protective that is taking the greatest risk. It is he or she that will saying, "only if I was wearing my protective gear."

This is a story (amount me) about a boy in Australia who tried this type of jump (very similar) on say just been and Is currently (right now) lying in a hospital bed in Brisbane qld. He will most likely (certain) have his right kidney removed from the huge crash tomorrow. In between the snores of other patients and their smelly farts. He knows he will need one if these if he is ever to ride again. Ps- visiting hours are 10-2/2-8pm. I believe in karma so if I don't score it I hope to god (Steve peat) a more deserved rider does.

if i had all the body armour it would definitely take a lot of the risk out of what i want to do . i no where i want to go but there is a risk and i don't have money for lessons on how to do drop offs so i do my own risk assessment . i took some the risks and it hurt . so i need to toughen up and believe me i am trying . i read once KNOWLEDGE CONQUERS FEAR and IF WE DON'T EVOLVE WE WILL GO STAGNANT AND DIE . anyway i am going to innerleithen right now to EVOLVE and CONQUER my fears .

went to innerleithen didnae do what i would have liked to shat out it
all these girls appeared on big f##k off dh bikes aw the body armour
they were all gone in seconds down the trail next to make or brake
they were training for sure so it was make or brake 3 times then
cadon bank then up to glentress jump park all be back down tomorrow
a good day though .and the matador drop will have to be in the next life ha .

All cycling is inherently dangerous. Cycling is safe if you ride within your abilities. When you add changing weather, terrain, and mental emotional state every time you ride it is best to wear the basics, helmet, eye protection and gloves. I would wear more if it wasn't bulky, heavy or hot. After all it's really about riding another day.
  • 1 0
Really the purpose of wearing protection(especially that evoc Armor) is to make you either A: look Really Buff or B: look really fat. i say that we all wear as much armor under our clothes as possible, so that bikers always look ripped Big Grin

There is some sort of witty comment about wearing protection to reduce the risk during sex but I can't think right now.

Always wear protection to prevent STDs (sudden tactical disasters)! At Rampage sometimes you get wings, other sometimes you get the horns. Gee here's hoping there was a giant waterbed on the backside of that rock.

I frame in my mind the choices I'll make I quiet my thoughts for the line I will take With my destiny set I fly through the air Then I fall to the earth for I wasn't quite there
  • 2 0
I think that gee should get the prize, so that it doesn't happen again next time
  • 3 1
i don't take risks. so i always go riding with a spare pack of four seasons in my camelbak. just in case Wink
  • 1 0
You should always stay safe with armour, but know there is alway safety in velour. For trying, for bravery, well done sir, well done.
  • 1 1
I would argue that there's no safety from comments about your poor fashion taste in velour.
  • 2 0
Haha touché cubie, touché! Squandered by autocorrect once again! Valour, valour...
  • 1 0
Frame nine is a classic pose. I say about time there is downhill action, was getting tired of seeing D.J sequences. Gee really made it look good, hope you heal up soon mate.
  • 1 0
Allow the unexpected to happen.. Be courageous enough to take risks.. or risk not accoplishing anything at all. The only thing you cant riskis not wearing protection!
  • 3 0
Between a rock and a hard case.
  • 1 0
Even professional riders make a mistake. Body protection won't make you a better rider but it will give you another day to live so you can practice to become a better rider.
  • 4 0
 I'm on the shitter.
  • 1 2
All I have asked for christmas is protection, a new helmet, new knee pads, new arm pads. This is because I want to take my riding to the next level and going to the next level means riding outside your comfort zone where there are risk involved and almost certainly crashes. Whilst I'm bummed gee crashed and couldn't compete I see crashes as a key part of improving and I'm sure Gee will come back bettter next year and slay the course
  • 1 0
The only thing that separates Gee and I is he would hit that again and not second guess himself. Way to push the boundaries dude.
  • 1 0
You should always wear protection when riding but taking risks has to be done to progress in the sport but also has to be thought about carefully
  • 1 0
That's actually a sequence of Gee at a slopestyle contest. He's calling that the "Knack Smack" and he's the only one doing it...
  • 2 0
I hope the bike was ok Wink
But in all seriousness that was insane. Looked incredably painfull.
  • 1 0
FINALLY this is getting more publicity on pinkbike, one of the most brutal crashes at rampage, I'm surprised he walked away from that... Gee is a MACHINE !
  • 2 3
Rampage is sweet and all, but one these days someone is going to kill themselves :/

There have already been loads of crashes that one way or another the riders have walked away from, and its only a matter of time before someone makes that one fatal mistake...

sorry to be a downer but that just what i think. good luck for the recovery Gee Smile
  • 1 0
i once had a crash at glencoe where i impaled myself on a pole i went to the doctor who had quite a shocker when he saw my mellon sized ball
  • 2 0
 Don’t be a fool, “Gee”tize your tool with an E.V.O.C.= Eyegasmic-V-badge-Oozer-Condom Vest!!!
  • 1 0
Dammit, I watched this so many time I forgot my spuds were on the boil. Remember kids always protection your hob else it gets messy!!
  • 1 0
If you had to do it all over again.. wouldn't you choose the best protector ?
EVOC. It's there when she throws a cliff of doubt at you. Be prepared.
  • 1 0
EVOC. Because that One Industries jersey might make you look like Gee Atherton, but it wont stop that rock from popping your chest like a cheap inner tube.
  • 1 0
I dont always wear protection...but when I do, I wear a EVOC Protector Vest Air...Stay thirsty my friends. -Sincerely, The most interesting man in the world.
  • 1 0
Forget your armor? The scrapes burn. Forget a rubber? Something else burns...

Note to (future) self: Always wear protection.
  • 1 0
Going down and injuring yourself is a huge part of the sport if your on the edge of your riding you go down and every once and a while you go down hard -Darren Berrecloth
  • 1 0
I wonder if they gave Gee one of these protection vests because he allowed Pinkbike to put him on a sequence saturday. BTW, what does evoc stand for?
  • 1 0
"Wearing armor is like wearing condoms. Sure, it reduces the risk of unforeseen consequences, but it feels soooooo much better without it."
But you last longer!!
  • 1 0
Protection. It gives you the opportunity to come back from a downfall sooner and with the confidence to try harder. Its a no brainer.
  • 1 0
Go big or go home and get your protective gear so you can go big. Protective gear protects your body and gives you the added confidence to push your limits to the next level.
  • 1 0
In everyday life, people protects what's most valuable to them...do you have something that needs protection?
Be on the safe side of life.
  • 2 0
Protection is a wonderful thing. It enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again.
  • 3 0
Some of you should really stop trying so hard for "best comment".
  • 1 0
Getting hurt sucks, but the pain is like another step up the ladder of success. It gives you something to help push you forward, because you don't wanna go back to it.
  • 2 0
"Riders are judged by their line, degree of difficulty and creativity. Kinda like figure skating."
  • 1 0
Life is too short not to take risks and explore our threshold to pain, with Armour like this why wouldn't you want to be like superman and fly on your bike?
  • 1 0
If anything could make that crash any better, it'd be an EVOC. I saw Darren rocking one at Rampage and it looked comfy, clean and worth serious consideration.
  • 2 1
Power´s nothing without control, it serves you nothing if you don´t do it with your head. - my father´s words
  • 1 0
even with a helmet on in photo 9 you can see the fear in his eyes and facial expression,
  • 1 0
Frame 9: "Oh hey guys! Yup, I'm fine, don't worry about me!" Frame 10: "F*ck."
  • 2 0
how do his bones not break?
  • 1 0
As the wise man once said: Always wear protection, no matter what situation.
  • 2 0
IS THE BIKE OK?!?! Oh wait I'm sponsored....
  • 1 0
In frame 6 and the handlebar is released, knows that he has fallen short in their protection and trust.
  • 1 0
Evoc protection have done studies you know. 60% of the time it works every time
  • 1 0
could be worse he could have halfords written on the back of his jersey but then i suppose that would explain a lot
  • 1 0
Remember kids, always use proper protection and never be afraid to back out just in case.
  • 2 0
I'm glad to see that Gee is living the Rock and Roll lifestyle.
  • 2 0
Pads........ once a month or 'Always'
  • 2 0
when there is a chance of an Evac use Evoc.
  • 2 0
Gee goes Taliban Hunting in the rockies Smile
  • 1 0
Don't you just love those "Oh shit" moments when your in the air and about to seriously mess yourself up. Yeah...
  • 1 0
If he was wearing a EVOC Protector Vest Air+ he would have stuck the landing perfectly. tisk tisk.
  • 1 0
I ain't the sharpest knife in the drawer but I know enough, to know, If your gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough

If you are afraid to fall, you fall because you are afraid
  • 1 0
The perfect way to avoid that back pain that keep you awake at night !!!!!!!!!
  • 1 0
shot 9 just looks like he is trying to become a flying squirrel. and failing
  • 1 0
Protective gear ? naah. What's needed here is air bags. Or a wing suit. Or levitation practice.

  • 1 0
Wearing protection is the best thing to do! But flying into a tree superman style and you'll still bust you collarbone Big Grin

If your gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough. When you get knocked down you gotta get back up.
  • 1 0
Gee Atherton midd air, "man, i wish i was wearing that EVOC Protector Vest Air+"
  • 1 0
I do my fair share of riding and never wear protection, I don't like the smell of burning rubber.
  • 1 0
Even the toughest/most skilled riders have to be smart! Just in "case" EVOC!
  • 1 0
If I try this same line and don't make it, can I have one of these protection vests?
  • 1 0
cheap protection can rub and chaffe , choose your protection with care before a ride.
  • 1 0
The judges don't give points on a "Cliff drop to case into no hander front flip to no land-er".

  • 1 0
You've got to wear it our before it expires. Hell yeah bruddah you can't take a healthy body with you!
  • 1 0
Not wearing a cup is much more comfortable when riding, but just like condoms it only takes once...
  • 3 4
frame 9 is insane! I'm amazed he didn't break every bone in his body, he got rag dolled pretty badly and as you can see from frames 8 and 9 the bike kinda stayed with him, OUCH! wish gee luck next year at rampage!
  • 1 0
Half way through gee thought he was master chief so decided to do the halo fall!!!
  • 2 0
I focus on winning and let Evoc worry about the binning.
