Once, Evil was simply perceived as that which man did not understand. Now he understands it all too well. Evil is the part of a man he attempts to shun. A side of himself he seeks to deny. I present to you the Evil Wreckoning. Laden with sin, seething with evil. A long travel 29er capable of devouring anything in its path. One bike encompassing all disciplines. Dormant DH bikes all across the land, shadowed by the Wreckoning. For it's the reaper of earth, destroyer of all terrain, the heart of all previously known to man. The day of the 29er has come, do you believe in the Wreckoning?

 2 words... Orange SOCKS
  • 64 3
I never saw a single thing he rode. Every new cut was just ORANGE SOCKS.
  • 12 1
@Bob-Agg: and the neon gloves. Those and the orange socks were just glowing down the trail. Smile
  • 14 8
Blue and orange are opposite each other on the colour wheel. He's wearing them because the contrast makes both colours pop. Cool thinking, since most riders wear bright shirts to stand out from the background.

i couldn't pay attention to his riding all i saw was ORANGE SOCKS
  • 14 0
 Two more..... Tank top
  • 18 1
The only place where blue and orange can be combined is on a GT40
  • 16 14
Those orange socks are an allegory to all different distractions that take us away from the our personal reasons for why we ride bikes. Like head angle.
  • 5 2
Orange socks, cutoffs, neon gloves, and blue rims. Sick riding and rad trail though. 5/7, would recommend.

@Creg: I am genuinely looking forward to see silver painted ENVES with yellow logos, on silver spokes and hubs. 2050 tech in 1980 looks.
  • 9 2
@Dexta: You know who else wear tank tops? Tri geeks.
  • 7 6
That trail was exceptional shame the video was completely sabotaged by those socks.

nice vid.. I like the song anyone knows the name?

@EinLurch: Some remix of the 'Clubbed To Death' tune from The Matrix.

@ampett: who f*cking cares? the matrix was 16 years ago, lets move on.
  • 7 2
@ajm1992: hey dude when you jump a moving train you can wear any thing you want too. This guy is a straight up OG Killa. And you're just a punk who doesn't know a legend when they see one!!

not if you live in an area with much poison oak.
  • 26 0
Yes, the new trend is fully uncovered arms and fully covered legs with long socks! Get with it!
  • 13 1
@FaastEddie: that makes a lot of scents
  • 18 1
I reckon he got confused and put his sleeves on his legs. It's the only possible explanation.

Go to Whistler any summer day and you'll see that it's part of the official brobrah uniform: full face / neck brace, knee pads, no gloves, tank top.
  • 45 18
The whole vid was just him rolling slowly down a hill without a pedal stroke. Was this a sock commercial?
  • 43 12
 Come ride it faster hotshot!
  • 5 0
@macbox: I would have to pedal due to being so heavy on the brakes for most of that trail.
  • 8 1
Smoky's been known to go chainless...
  • 4 0
Hey, at least he wore a sleeveless shirt to match his full face helmet
  • 8 2
@FaastEddie heres the deal, most every one of the trails he was on is SteepAF, Like, you wouldnt even go close to that fast on your dh sled. If youre ever fortunate enough to ride these trails, you get the idea.

@POWsLAYER: haha you're funny. There's only a handful of sections on that vid that are steep. You need to watch again like I did. I even gave you the benefit of the drought and you were still wrong. The steep stuff on there, Ive done stuff that steep. Not so steepAF like you say. The rest is just flowie stuff moderately inclined. Look at the angle of the trees relate to the trail. The whole middle part of the vid is pretty much flat. It's smooth, but not some bad ass trail video. He looks stiff the whole time. There isn't even any exposure. My trials start @8500 ft elevation and there are whole sections where there's cliff to one side where you could fall 100 feet and is steep.

@n-lagasse: douche canoe... Must be a Canadian thing! Hahaha I'm just being real. Can you tell me what so epic about that video?!? Yeah, I didn't think so! So when I call it out for being a "what evs" video and his stupid ass socks people hate. Lame. Ass you can see, there's a bunch of comments on this thread about his stupid ass socks. I'm not the only one thinking they are sillyAF!!!
  • 26 1
If you really want to sell this bike just keep showing vids of Strobel crushing it.
  • 2 1
 @oldenglish
m.youtube.com/watch?v=dBAy7YUVdnM
Well I don't exactly see Stroble jumping f*cking trains so I don't really think that's the answer.
  • 27 4
Not gonna lie: those blue rims on that blue frame look sick.
  • 4 1
All I was looking at was his rims. I didn't notice his orange socks until I red the top comment.
  • 15 1
I disapprove of all this trail dress code fanboyism.
The trail is super sweet, and the riding is not pretentious and spot on.
I can identify with this video much more than I can with other (still very entertaining) videos with alien riding and spotless matching kits.
  • 19 5
Really dig Evil as a brand. But this clip doesn't sell me the bike. Sorry Evil.

Would love to see Van Steenbergen on this trail with his DH (any van Steenbergen will do)
Should get my stoke way higher.
  • 13 5
I own a evil undead DH bike and the following 29er and love both, but evil is delusional if they think that DH bikes will be replaced by a long travel single crown 29er. They stopped producing their DH bike, which was a let down to their core followers since that's what put them originally on the map, and I just wish they would wake up and bring back a legit DH bike.
  • 2 1
@dirtyrig: rumor has it they have more tricks up their sleeves!
  • 2 1
@DeLaRosaMTB: you know what I'm hoping is up their sleeves. Don't get me wrong, I love everything this company puts out and have been a loyal customer for years, but I also live in a area where we have DH trails that are just better ridden on a 26 or 27.5 DH rig with a dual crown fork and I'm not the one to pray, but have found myself praying for a new evil DH machine! Cry
  • 8 0
@dirtyrig: Strobel is running a prototype fox dual crown on this very 29er
  • 7 8
I agree, this really didn't sell the bike to me. This trail on a 130mm 29er would have looked more lively. A 160mm 29er needs a high speed, bike park edit to look great. THEN i'd be stoked on it.
  • 3 6
 Your a dick
  • 2 0
@dirtyrig what put them on the map was the Imperial.
  • 2 0
@dirtyrig: I would have thought that logic would point to them taking their 26 DH bike out of their lineup because they would be releasing an updated 27.5 one?
  • 1 0
@esander: true, but Strobel only weighs 154lbs, I have 50lbs on him and aside from the eventual availability of a 29er dual crown fork I still would prefer it on a 26 or 27.5 bike for most of our dh trails. At my weight I would be replacing 29" rims often riding most of the dh trails that we ride. Anywhere else I love 29ers, but not for dh and I'm only speaking about my own preference, I'm not saying one is better than the other.
  • 2 0
@myfriendgoose: That's definitely true, but I think the undead did a lot more to revolutionize the company into what it is today and was the springboard for all their new full suspension bikes, it would be nice to see evil with a legit dh bike.
  • 2 0
@Callum-H: I would have thought the same thing, but they haven't released any information that I know of to point to that and it's been quite a while since the undead has been dropped from their line up.
  • 2 0
@dirtyrig: This is true, and I am only suggesting this not trying to be smart so don't hate me, but there was not a whole lot of information about the Canyon DH rig (not a lot that I was aware of anyway) up until it was near release time, and given the fact that Evil had a bit of a history for poorly made frames before the Undead so perhaps they just want to make sure it is all swell. There wasn't too much PR for the Wreckoning either now that I think of it, and I doubt a relatively small company such as Evil would want something like what happened with Yeti's SB6C test bike that was given to PB.
  • 2 0
@Callum-H: I agree and for a small company Evil does have a talent for marketing, Kevin Walsh's main company is a advertising/branding/marketing company, so you can say he knows what to do, and I can see the "silence" regarding a new DH bike as creating a "buzz" without actually releasing any information, anticipation is a great marketing tool that requires little expenditure. There has to be others like me that loved the evil undead so much and just cant see the company without having a dh bike in their lineup. The undead has to be one of the hottest mtb bikes ever created, the bike not only rides awesome but is also aesthetically a work of art!
  • 3 1
@DeLaRosaMTB: rumor has it that this guy wasn't wearing any sleeves!

  • 2 0
@xprswy: Deepest apologies. It wasn't me, it was the liquor.
  • 2 0
@dirtyrig: This is all very true, despite having never owned a DH bike I cannot wait to see if they release a DH bike and what it will look like

If any of you fashion dummies knew Smokey, you'd feel like a dick right now. Super rad dude, ALWAYS stoked, shredder, and quite the past. Also that trail is as usual likely twice as gnarly as it looks. Stoked Jay is putting out brain candy to get through my Monday morning. Oh yeah, I like the bike too.

I feel like a few years ago this would've been shot with a DH bike. Now I'm watching a 29er ripping on that? Crazy.

I think dh bikes still hold a place in the industry, but if you're not racing or have some lift service, this bike sure does make a lot of sense.

That was awesome. Smokey rules. True Original. More shovel time in 1 month than 95% of people here put in in a year. He doesn't care what ya'll think of his socks. He prob just wore em so you would cluck about it like lil girls. Long live the Smoke!
  • 3 1
I couldn't agree more with you @olympicdirtsociety, @speedwa, and @MQTBMX. These two guys spend their lives working to move the sport forward with their riding, building and filming. Great video cinematography of a legendary rider on a bike that is truly a game changer riding some of the best trails you will ever see. Thanks Jay and Smokey for all you do every day and thanks Kevin for building possibly the best bike I've ever ridden. Yes, I own and believe in the Wreckoning. JFR
  • 5 1
Always a pleasure to see you Smokey! Made smooth work of those trails buddy!
  • 2 0
the music Big Grin first it's like chopin and then it's like the battlefield intro or something. Throw that in the mix with an evil wreckoning and what could possibly go wrong? Except for the tank top and the socks of course...
  • 5 1
That poll earlier wasn't at all a setup for this vid! What a troll trap. And a sick azz bike.
  • 6 3
Forgot I had it muted for the first half of it. Turned the sound on and turned it back off. Shredding this good doesn't need sound
  • 2 1
The first bit was better with more bike/trail noise, then the music cranked up.

After getting my insurgent I thought (and told many people actually). Damn, if theres one co id trust to make a fun snappy 29er, it would be the makers of the Insurgent. Enter Wreckoning. Love my 650B, but am curious.
  • 6 1
Bi.....cycle curious!? I kid, but you should demo one. These "new" 29ers blow my mind.

I have two buddies who drove down to pick up Wreckoning frames recently. They can not say enough about how much they love their bikes! Stable smooth ridged platforms capable of absolutely shredding!
  • 5 3
I'm so bike perverted that I'd love to try Hightower with 26+ on the rear and 29 front since the biggest benefit of the plus tyre is on the rear and biggest flaw on the front.
  • 2 0
@Andr0id: Ha, I walked right into all of that. Hey man I find beauty in all diameters. lol

I picked up my insurgent just a bit before the wreckoning was announced, would've loved to demo both, monogamy is dead anyway.

  • 2 2
Sounds like a "Halloween" movie soundtrack
  • 6 1
It's a remix of 'Clubbed to Death' by Rob Dougan, used in the Matrix but was written for the movie 'Clubbed to death' a 1996 French film starring Élodie Bouchez.
  • 6 6
Loving all these "gnarly niners" that are coming out. It's a tough choice between the Wreckoning, the Hightower, the SB5.5c or the redesigned Spesh Enduro 29 ( hoping it will be a bad ass) for a new frame for me.
  • 9 2
Dont forget about the Banshee Prime and Canfield Riot or YT Jeffsy....so many good bikes out there right now. I have made up a little spreadsheet that have all the "new school" 29ers that I can find on it...so when I do go to replace my Prime (been on it for 3 years now) I just have to look at the sheet....so far the Riot is in first.
