For a long time I've wanted to organize a road-trip, because it’s the best way to catch images in all kinds of conditions - sunrise, sunset, night, rain. So, I asked Loic Trouillas to come with me to the Black hills, and ride a famous trail in Southern France. A few weeks later, it was game on. Unfortunately, there was a weather alert concerning rain for our second day out. We ignored it and decided to leave anyway.

We had a cool sunset and night session on the first evening, but it was the last one of the trip.

Day two, we woke up to the noise of the rain and the wind against the tent and it was hard to find motivation to go out. We knew that the rain would continue, and going home at this point of the trip was not possible, so we tried to do something original. This idea was born when we saw the weather conditions, but doing it was another challenge. So, we left base camp, into the wind and the pouring rain.

With this weather, the trail completely changes. The canyons become rivers, the ground sticks and slips, and making speed on a mountain bike becomes really difficult. From my point of view, I’d never shot in this kind of difficult condition and I never played this way, risking the life of my DSLR.

The third day was a little bit less windy but maybe more rainy. We wanted to do a few more images, so the morning was dedicated to do some really stupid ones. I want to thanks Loïc for that, because under a diving mask, you can’t breathe, you don’t see anything and pedaling in a river is not the easiest thing to do. So, we left on the third day after the river session.

To conclude, doing images in these conditions was really hard but really cool! We were not sure if we could do a video at the beginning, as it was really hard to do both photos and video at the same time, both for for me and for the rider. We had to each take a countless number of times.

I love how he's running a tiagra road derailleur as well, a £20 component at most and he's hitting some fairly big stuff!
It's not about the bike it's about the rider !
  • 16 3
I'm sorry to pick you up on this but it was the £20 Enduro specific tiagra road dérailleur !!!!!!!!!
  • 10 1
Graham, Totally agree buddy. I have been on countless uplift days and been stared at had people point becasue of me and my rattly old kona turning up. Good thing you can't hear people when they are choking on dust Big Grin

Of course he is riding a Tiagra. Before there was Zee, the free riders' choice was either Saint or Tiagra Smile

My fav was always some arrogant roadie's Craigslist gifting of a Dura-Ace. Smug roadies despise last years derailleur and jettison them like a stale cracker.

On this day, the 15th of November, 2014, these bearings were commited to the deep. May god have mercy on their souls.
  • 6 1
his bearings, his chain, pretty much the whole damn bike. and think of the noise when he tries to brake. lord have mercy.

 Due for a service
  • 22 1
Make sure you take out your BB and let the fish out of it
  • 3 0
But don't need to wash the bike.
  • 3 0
i'd rather have to clean than service my entire bike...
  • 6 0
 Just soak it in rice!

riding in the wet is cool, but you can quickly destroy a trail that someone put a lot of time into building. Just be cautious when you go out to shred!
  • 4 3
For sure! Some trails are built for lots of rain, so have good drainage and an appropriate tread surface. Others get destroyed by people who probably have no idea how much work goes into building them.
  • 10 0
... which is obviously not the case here
  • 10 2
If we lived by that idea here in the UK, the UK scene wouldn't exist. It takes more skill to ride ruts anyways

Out today in the wet. Lots of fun but very boggy. My shoe and George micheal had something in common today. They both got sucked of in a bog!!!
  • 5 0
Excuse me sir... you said trail?? i didn't see any...
  • 4 0
I think if there had been a trail, under 8+ inches of raging water (20cm +/-)? I don't think riding it is going to be the worst of the issue.
  • 36 8
Dear god I hope he wasn't running Avids. The noise... the horrible noise
  • 13 1
 Why does it cry?
  • 18 5
Am i the only man whos elixirs dont make a terrible noise?
  • 25 4
 Yes
  • 82 5
Once you take them out the box they will...
  • 4 1
 LOL!! This guy ^
  • 2 1
keep the Avid urban legend going boys, yawn
  • 15 1
I hate to moan given that this all comes for free on PB but.... a 3 min vid in which one minute was nothing but an intro of a man driving a car. I appreciate that you need to set the scene and so on (I know nothing of film production so please excuse me if this is the wrong terminology) but c'mon!!!!! These drawn out intros of people sleeping and then hitting alarm clocks before getting up or frying eggs in slow motion or whatever seem to be part of half of the videos on here now....Rant over Smile

 R.I.P. that bike's BB...

riding in the rain is better than not riding in the rain
  • 3 0
 Hi,
je dirais même plus : riding or not-raining... that is the question Sir !
  • 2 1
riding in the rain is better than not riding at all right?
  • 3 0
Well, in an other way : to be or not to be... that is the big question Wink

he's never ridden Irish mud! what id give for those conditions in the wet! (yes that is a challenge, gimme a shout if you think you are good enough)
  • 1 2
Exactly, nobody has ever ridden proper mud till they get to ireland
  • 24 1
Let me guess it's just riding regular mud but drunk right????
Lol had too pal !
  • 2 0
Totally different from Irish weather. My grandparents lived at bottom of the Dignes Blacks hills (where the video is shoot). The river in this valley is known for very fierce flash floods.
And when I mean flash flood it's no joking, In summer after a storm we went to the bridge to see the wave comming: a big wall of black muddy water that can send a car flying.
Ignoring weather alerts here can be deadly, 5 this weekend (inc two childrens). All in cars, trying to pass through water on road/bridges.
  • 7 1
great riding!! but is it just me or does that bike look very very small on him
  • 8 0
 Punkbike
  • 2 0
I don't know how you people in the UK and other sopping wet countries do it! Probably why you're all maniacs on bikes! We don't get hit hard with rain here in the Northeast USA, but what we DO get hit with snow.....lots and lots of snow. Oh yea, and cold. Speaking of snow and cold....heading out for a ride!

Who cares about warnings! In 2004 when they anounced the Tsunami I went swimming it was cool

 Strava or it didn't happen

 That's how you get cholera.

Bad weather makes for some of the best riding!
  • 4 0
I ride in wet weather like that most days in the Lake District, sometimes I even remember to re-lube my chain so it isn't orange the following day!
  • 26 25
What's so cool about locking up the back and swinging the ass end of the bike back and forth all the way down the hill? It's isn't any kind of cool, and even if you put aside the trail damage argument, it's simply not a demonstration of any kind of skill. I used to think that was fun...when I was ten years old. No wonder the pinkbike crowd goes apeshit for it.
  • 22 4
I donno, it looked like they were having fun. If you wanna be the guy telling people how they can and cannot have fun well g/l...probably just wasting your time tho. And what ya got against 10 year olds? lol
  • 20 4
haters gonna hate... that looked super fun. you don't have to be "demonstrating any kind of skill" to be having a blast on your bike.
  • 12 2
we got a fun police here.
  • 5 1
hahaha, how dare you have any fun on your bikes. Whats more important is how you look and that you're demonstrating your skill to people watching.
  • 6 1
@jaal agreed... That kind of riding is super disrespectful to trailbuilders. Sure this trail is a sh*t river but I'm sure this rider is just as likely to lock it up in pristine berms.
  • 3 4
OH MY GOD! How DARE he have fun like a 10-year-old. HOW DARE HE?! Not to mention how RUDE he'll be when he gets sick from playing in the rain and is sniffling all over the place like a six-year-old? And what about THAT MUD?! OH MY GOD. His bike. Ugh. It's soooooo messy. SOMEONE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!
  • 5 0
@jaal keep fighting the good fight. The word you're looking for is "freeride flick." It's a travesty.
  • 1 0
Ride it don't slide it. Just sayin'.

Surely rule No. 9 applies, Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period
www.velominati.com/the-rules/#9
This made me smile, after my 16 mile, ride through the Kent mud, in the heavy rain at the weekend, covered in sh1t, and grinning like a fool.

Reminds me of my Scottish road trip this summer. We had a beautiful, hot, sunny summer this year. Apart from the week we spent in Scotland. Where it rained. HARD. Every goddamn day. (bar one)
  • 1 0
I rode in pissingggg rain ONCE…..fractured my ankle and had to walk down the rest of the trail (almost 20min) and then take two skytrains and a bus home sopping wet Frown

This video shows us that for having a good time, you don't have to care from the after effects.. and he did it.
  • 3 0
Banshee Wildcard!! Best bike I have ridden, people seem to ignore them!

Oh wow - the same retard who did the How to get Berm Roost Video showing another retarded video with gratuitious cutties and skids.
  • 5 2
Use of the word “retard” in a derogatory nature - not cool.
  • 3 1
Thanks for the fallout and reminder. My bad
  • 2 1
 Fallout- call out I meant
  • 3 0
Hey thanks for the thanks on the call out! I was expecting some sort of ridiculous and defensive insults to be fired back at me. Right on.
  • 5 2
 nice bro kick outs.
  • 5 6
i think its fair to say that to mountainbikers, warnings don't really mean much...

if theres a sign saying : 'Do not ride here; Enduro riders alert' - we ride there anyway despite the dangers of anything endure related Wink
