After days of fog the sun came out over Winterberg just in time for the Best Trick contest of Red Bull Berg Line. And the best conditions were just good enough for the amazing show of the riders: an enthusiastic audience watched the world's best freeride athletes showcasing a trick fireworks in a class of its own. At the end Polish rider Szymon Godziek grabbed the win with a perfect cashroll.
The judges in the Best Trick contest of Red Bull Berg Linehad their work cut out for them: from Linus Sjoholm (SWE) with his unique late rotated frontflip, Patrick Leitner with a stylish backflip superman or Sam Dueck (CAN) with a clean 360 double tailwhip - all were entitled to take some reasonable hope of victory. Not to be forgotten, Martin Soderstrom from Sweden, who showed a sick 360 triple tailwhip but couldn’t made a clean landing. So it was Szymon Godziek from Poland who impressed the audience and the judges with a flawless cashroll in his first run at the most.
Just days ago, Szymon had started practising this trick in his training sessions: "I didn’t expect to land this jump at the first attempt here. Because it was only the second time ever that I did the cashroll perfectly. But I also knew that if I land the trick clean, I have the best chance of winning. Now of course I'm totally happy that it all went out this way.”
All freeride fans that can’t make it to Winterberg should still mark May 19th in their calendar: the finals with the best 12 riders will be broadcast from 9:45am PST (6.45pm CET) live on Pinkbike.
