there is going to be a really intense rock, paper, scissors match at the top for who will be the ginny pig...

with no disrespect to the guy but I don't really get this. Its like there fighting or ignoring what mountain biking has done and that it exists. mega props to the guys, they have balls but its like using a spoon to dig a hole when you have spade. Every tool has its best use, a BMX is TYPICALLY better for riding ramps, skate parks and your average dirt jumps but a mountain bike is better for belting it down a hill and hitting huge jumps. And the way they mention MX,sking and snowboard but not MTB seems very weird to me...like they don't want people knowing its all be done.

Yeah I agree, when they were mentioning influences I can't help but think its been done before, Oh yeah it has, redbull rampage, this should have been up up there in the top 3 influences ( unless they simply just didn't say it In the video), but when the course is done I defiantly want to see a video of someone doing it
  • 8 1
The reason they mentioned skiing and snowboarding is because they want ro replicate the same style of jumps. Mountain bike jumps and redbull rampage utilize the bikes suspension more than the smoothness of the landing, that's why redbull does not look like a smooth bmx course. Use your head. And when has this been done before on bmx besides dane? Nobody really. No body has really build a line of 60 foot dirtjumps. They are manning up and seeing if bmx can go bigger than previously done, its not like they are trying to beat everyone else's records on bicycles so the record says bmx next to it or something. Again they are doing it to see if bmx is really at its limits or if we can go bigger.
  • 1 1
didn't downhill BMX back in the day have like 60foot gaps?
some of the landing are pretty smooth in slope style to the point there riding hardtails.....

So glad this guy isn't being forgotten too soon. Dane truly is a legend.

 He'll never be forgotten.
  • 2 2
thats a bit dramatic, eventually everyone is forgotten

I loved his Giants of Dirt.

Crazy gnarly stuff, however I do find it funny that they specifically mention motocross, snowboarding and skiing as inspiration but try to ignore the fact that they are taking their BIKES to the MOUNTAIN.... Can't take anything away from them though, I'm not about to hit anything taller than me without a full face on. Can't wait to see the video.

When these dudes hit the mountain, the whole bmx world is going to turn on its head. This is just insane

I just want to say god bless these guys. It really isn't about the "progress" of a "sport" at the end of the day. It's about showing each other what regular people are capable of when traditional and established boundaries are tested. It's about doing your own thing. It's about being mortal and loving every minute of it.

I agree with everything...after your first sentence Smile

No offence to those who believe in fairy tales and sky gods, but this sort of thing is about as real it gets, so how about we just say good luck and kudos for trying something new.

This reminds me of the dream of Ron Penny who thought that mountain bikes are like dirtbikes and that we should be jumping 100+ feet.
  • 7 1
matlab... tooo much matlab.... i just spent too much time in their "math program"

either way should be pretty sick...
  • 3 1
Hahah I have matlab nightmares as well...scary shit

Wasn't there a bmx dirt comp at whistler a few years ago? Redbull elevation or something? I remember they built a downhill dirt jump course that at the time was considered pretty huge but even that I don't think was anywhere close to what it looks like is planned here.

Hopefully this is a turning point for BMX, it would be cool to see people getting out if the skatepark and riding some dirt instead!
  • 2 0
Well, at least they're using a scientist to know what the "rough" limit of possibility is. The human body, bike and weather are all completely variable, so best of luck finding the correct range of safe variables to launch in.

I remember seeing Dane Searls Video and jumps on youtube and remember thinking they were insane and it was'nt ever going to take of but seeing this video showed how seriouse these guys actully are with all this athletic training
  • 1 0
This is sick and cant wait to see or try them, bt i dont think they need all of the scientific stuff. Building dirt jumps is just about building them and trying them and fixing the problems but if it helps dane searls dream live then do what ever it takes
  • 5 0
try a 60 ft jump with wind or better yet try to figure out the speed you need to make it to the other side, thats why they need a guy with scientific knowledge, to make it as safe as they can
  • 2 0
Exactly, when you are talking about building things the size they are, they can't just go out and try it to see if its good. Because if its not they will be f'd. The speeds, hieghts, and trajectories involved here likely haven't even been approached on a BMX bike. They need to be as close to dialed as they can be before anyone even tries it.
  • 1 0
Dane searls didnt really do that.
  • 6 2
They wanna see the how far they can go, its more like slopestyle on bmx haha... MTB has been killing it for ages lol
  • 2 0
Pretty sweet, but who are these guys? Might be a dumb question, but a quick google search on the riders doesn't show too much....
  • 1 2
I liked the fact that they are trying to go big and do something new... But in my opinion, when you have to go for a lab and do math to be able to hit the jump or build a ramp, all the fun is gone... And for me, at least, ride is all about fun!
  • 2 0
Yea but if you want to go huge like these guys then you have to rely on the science and the math. These guys aren't building a back yard kicker here. You can't just build something that big and just hit it and see how it goes.

this is awesome! and to everyone asking why? mtn bikers have been doing this for years is stupid. all of the action sports have been feeding off each other for years!

Didn't watch the video because I'm at the office but I do love the quote!
