Pinkbike Sick Threads T-shirt Contest - Finalists!

The Pinkbike Sick Threads contest has come to a close. Thanks and congrats to everyone who submitted an entry, we were blown away by the creativity and downright balls out designs. Over 3000 entries were received in 2 weeks from around the world!

We are proud to announce the finalists...

The Sick Threads contest has been a huge success - so successful that we haven't been able to pick our top three yet. We really need a couple more days to sort through them all. While we duke it out in the back alley, here are the top picks from the judges so far. Note that some of the entries shown may not fall under the contest rules exactly (like, more than 4 colours, etc), but may have been selected because we like some aspect of the design. All winning designs will meet contest criteria.

Pinkbike will judge and select 3 designs to be printed and add them into our 2011 clothing line up. The top three winners will be announce Wednesday, November 3rd. Feel free to comment on and fav the designs you like the best, and if you think we've missed a good one, post the link!

 I really don't get it. Why did you guys spend some time writing rules that the judges obviously don't give a s*** about? I don't discuss the results, it's a matter of feeling for everybody, but at least be fair. Don't keep files into finals which don't match the requirements for being printed... Some people actually read the rules and tried to follow them... (they obviously lost their time).
Anyway, good luck to those of the final designs that meet the requirements.

 If you have a political point of view, i think that judges gave hope to many people who worked hard to prevent a rebellion of the pinkbike community... My point is that you shouldn't tag your design with an esterik logo cos it's a pinkbike contest and not a promotion tool and i'm sure that judges think like me... Sorry for you dude.

Not beeing selected for the finals doesn't bother me at all. There are tons of incredible designs and some people spent way more time than me on theirs, and they are really great!!! Actually, I love some of them way more than mine Smile
Regarding my design, maybe I shouldn't have printed my logo on it. On the other side, nothing says it's forbidden to sign the picture you submit. But again, not being selected wasn't my point. My point was about the rules, and the fact that finalists should have followed them.
I think people can understand that their design isn't selected because it doesn't meet the requirements without striking a rebellion Smile (at least, I hope so).
Good luck to you, one of yours is really cool. Hope you'll make it in the last 3 at least.

 The fact is that they probably selected someones for the goodness of the community. We both know they can't make win a poor or delirious design. If we analyse what happend last days, they put in final almost anyone who claimed he deserve it. That's not fair considering the rules, but it's not the goal... What do think about to purpose to make them organise a jersey contest. It will me more intersting for both of us. Thanks for comments, see you later !

 I don't know about a jersey contest... Considering the way they managed this one, I will probably not participate. Plus, giving a design to pinkbike made in 2 hours just for fun is one thing, giving them one of my jersey design has very few chances to hapen. Especially if there is no way to print the brand name on it. The time and energy for one jersey design is not worth the prizes according to me.

 yeah i dont quite understand how they chose them. i thought i actually had a chance at winning something because my shirt has over 40 favs and i was super stoked, but i guess i was wrong as its not in the top at all. kind of a let down Frown good luck to everyone who is still in it though

 I think the fact that a lot of really amateur designs made into the finals makes it even more interesting and way less predictable like Eurovision song contest (: And as for the faves... crowds never really understand what they want that's why there are and always will be wise leaders to guide them.

 Camp of champs called winner on one of mine. I think the people there are wise. But whatever, no one knew what pinkbike was looking for. I'll try again next time! I don't think any of mine that are finalists will win. Haha good luck!

 Iam angry as hell. Someone stolled my design and told me that I copied it from that thief. I cant believe I spend tens of hours on this and than somebody cames with the opinion that I dident made and more over that I stole it!

 Don't worry beneli. What these amateurs don't understand is that without the original vector file, these jpgs are useless. And looking at that guy's other work, I don't believe for a second that he has the illustration skills required to produce that. Your skills are the real deal - much respect.

 Well, I definitely dont think mine was a winner now that I have seen more of the designs, but definitely better than alot of the finalists in my opinion. I have to agree that some of the finalists seem pretty elementary. I fail to understand why a white shirt with a PB logo even made any impression on a judge. I thought mine would appeal to more than just the DH riders on PB, but I think it was missing some energy that some of the other designs possessed.

 eSterik has an excellent point about the rules. Sure seems like a changing set with hidden criteria.
If production feasibility comes into play, then anything that wraps around the sides, colored collars and large solid blocks of Colour should be out.

Aesthetically, most of this stuff is juvenile and amateur. The biggest problem with most is the poor use of color. Many can't be adapted to different base t colours and the use of primaries is simply ugly. Probably any winning entry should have some use of pink? t won't help promote Pinkbike as a brand if that is the goal.

Crowdsouring a design is not the same as hiring a designer.

My 2 entries are fully separated for easy printing, use texture with current Colour trends and would be more iconic than most.
Like something you'd see in a store, which is what I was shooting for.

There are lots of fun ideas and I think it's cool that the community contributed a lot of effort.

 To generalize and say that most of the stuff doesn't deserve to be there is a bit harsh, no? Most finalists' entries have had some serious work put into them.

Like I said, all winning designs will meet contest criteria. Some are in there because some aspect of the entry is appealing, it doesn't mean it's a winner - some designs, while awesome, are completely unprintable.

We have ton of entires to go through as well. The finalists are just the ones the judges have highlighted - again, if you have something you think we've missed, post a link and we'll review it.

 Its not like they are unprintable they are hard to print given the costs you want to put in them. You should have stated that you want simple graphics beforehand imho.

I agree with Juba - most of them I would never even think of buying while many of the not chosen ones are instant hits and if they were upped to threadless or teefury they would generate tons of hype and end up on t-shirts. If they can do it why pinkbike cant? I think its better if you spend a couple of bucks more a piece and end with a higher costing shirt that is awesome than have a cheap shirt with a silly logo that I could have printed myself with no graphic skill whatsoever.
Im quite convinced its better advertising for pinkbike when people go - WOW! Where did you get that t-shirt and ask about the page than having a crappy overly simple project that noone will notice.

 spaced - It has nothing to do with the complexity of the graphic. If a design has more than 4 colours or a bunch of gradients or needs to be sublimated rather than screened, then we deem it unprintable. Chances are good that it won't make it into the finals.

 i knew it had to be 4 colours and original, but it had to be done on the template too? that seems unecessary, a shirt design is a shirt design. and i dont remember even seeing that in the rules..

 to explain, if i could... Your designs are all unprintable with a silkscreen printing process. You cannot print close the border of the shirt, it's to hard to craft...
