Macduff Kali 2020

We are beyond excited to announce that Kali will continue working with Matt Macduff through 2020. Having worked with the young Canadian since 2013, we look forward to these upcoming years and helping Macduff grow to achieve awesome feats, such as the Loop Of Doom and whatever other insane ideas he has brewing.

bigquotesSupporting Macduff as he continues to break the rules in terms of what is possible on a bike but also in action sports is a rare opportunity for us. Few riders are so driven to grow themselves and the sport they love. Combine that with great natural talent on the bike and unbridled ambition - always keep your eyes on this guy! - Julian Coffey, Kali Protectives

Builder Movie.

Back in March of 2016, Macduff attempted to ride his daunting 40-foot Loop of Doom, but G'd out at the apex and had a brutal fall resulting in 13 fractures in his hand and ankle. Since then, his main focus has been his recovery, taking things one day at a time and growing his beard as a measure of his progress. You can follow the follicular recovery progress through his Instagram tag: #beardgrowslongmangetsstrong.

Luckily, it takes much more than a 40-foot fall to scare this brakeless assassin away. In recent days, Macduff's recovery has progressed enough for him to get back on a bike and ride some. However, sending it big over massive jumps like those in Pure Darkness 3 are still out of reach... for now. The extent of Macduff’s injuries are by far the worst he has sustained in his biking career, but he is very optimistic and continues to work towards a full recovery. As for The Loop, it is still in South Africa creating its own waves - word is it has become quite the tourist attraction.

What makes Macduff legendary is his ability to conceive of ideas that make the rest of the action sports world sit up and take notice. Kali is pleased to provide Matt with the most innovative protection on the market, as well as the peace of mind that will allow him to keep pushing the envelope. Macduff has been an integral part of Kali's recent growth and success, culminating with the unveiling of The Macduff multiple impact helmet at Interbike 2016, a product that will arrive in stores late summer 2017. With Macduff as a namesake, the helmet features Kali's proprietary Nano Fusion and is the world's first truly multiple impact helmet, capable of withstanding up to 10 impacts in the same spot without a loss in protection.

bigquotesEver since my crash last year I've never taken my health so seriously. It's not till things go wrong you realize how important protecting your head is. Being back on the bike I couldn't imagine wearing another helmet... And that's why I'm so stoked to continue being a part of Kali Protectives. Looking forward to some awesome years ahead!- Matt MacDuff
.

We’re happy to see Matt getting better each day and can’t wait until he is at full health. Until then, we await the next onslaught of Macduff projects including the upcoming release of The Loop of Doom film (coming soon!).

Cheers to three more years!!

Yep, that loop crash photo is still arguably the gnarliest bike photo of all time. Glad he's got a helmet sponsor!

When you realized that Matt MacDuff already did the trick of which thousands were entertained when Semenuk performed it in 2016, with a brakeless bike off a street spot. (4:12 in civil savage video)

 Much smaller drop.

@Hyperx: Three years earlier, without freecoaster, on a street set up with a sketchy wooden plate that could have slipped away and on a brakeless hardtail. The height in difference is also not that much, since Macduff his half cab was also about 3m from the top to where he landed.

Anyways, I have huge respect for Semenuks half cab drop as well, but the credit for worlds first on a mtb goes to Macduff.

@Mattin: Semenuk did it first in a competition on a real drop, that's what all this hype about.
for sure Macduff did it earlier, and maybe someone did it even earlier than him

@Mattin: I'm pretty sure Semenuk was going for a half cab bar at RB joyride due to the fact he over rotated and he kind of went to pinch at the start. So credit for Semenuk adapting Mcduffs worldie into two more worldies with the cab whip and cap bar.

@jakecallcut: actually Sem did cab bar, on practise, so we can be pretty sure - it could be halfcab bar.

How he found the time to star in Sons of Anarchy for all those seasons is a mystery.

Haha great marketing- Signature helmet should be called "Up the MacDuff"! if Matt does the loop again there should be a mulch pile next to the loop (where he landed his fall) to absorb the landing if it goes all Macduff'ed up next time!

That's the tricky bit. He crashed on his run in. If that were soft, it would have been even more likely that he lost control. I would have hated to see him leave the loop on the other side either, with those reinforcements in the way. Best would be if someone helped him out with the calculations on how fast he should have gone going into it. He went in way too fast and lost control.

I think he was probably going too slow- the loop is made of 2x4s basically and is not very smooth. He landed not much further out than the edge of the loop, and if he only has 1g of acceleration at the top, then any small bump means zero control. Perhaps the loop needs a redesign or a layer of tar to fill the gaps. He should be able to pull 5-7gs safely, park riders do that all the time airing 6 foot quarters 10 ft up.

The stuff he rides... @mattmacduff needs a parachute sponsor
  • 1 0
I didn't realize how skilled he was. He shouldn't waste all of that skill on riding the loop, then again nobody with less skill would ride the loop either. It's a bit of a hero trap in terms of injury, because only someone extremely skilled would ride it, but also you're risking someone extremely skilled getting injured.

Pretty amazing that this guy isn't dead yet. He is doing amazing riding and I understand brakeless BMX riders but damn dude, where's the neck brace? where is the safety gear? JUST a helmet?! set an example for your young viewers and fans.
