Is It Worth It?
I was lucky enough to do my work experience placement at the Glentress branch of Alpine Bikes, I was allowed to go out for a ride on the rental bikes at lunch, tried a 26" Orange Five, a 650B Orange Five and a 29" Orange Five. All where great bikes, in my opinion the 29 was the most fun bike, it actually allows you to ride along at insane speeds, even dropping into trails with maybe one or two cranks would put me into a similar speed of pedalling like a mofo on a 26. But at the end of the day, every wheel size felt amazing. I think people seem to forget that it's "the rider, not the bike" Plus another perk of that work placement, it was the week of the EWS event in Peebles, I got to chat and ride with some of the best in the game. I stood and spoke to Curtis Keene about the course, was funny because everybody else went in for just local corner shops and I was rubbing shoulders with some of the best enduro riders in the world.
