The Province's racing brigade and its teams gathered in Saguenay/Lac St Jean, just two hours north of Quebec City, this past weekend for the third round of Quebec Cup series. The venue, Mont Bélu, was situated in the La Baie borough and overlooked the smaller surrounding township and industry.

Don't let the first two pictures fool you; lift access for bikes was offered only by T-bar. Although unique and humorous to some, the non-conventional lift kept breaking down throughout Saturday's practice which was less than ideal.

A rainstorm the day before practice rolled through and transformed the otherwise dusty track into a slippery mess. A lot of mud kicked up on Saturday but thankfully it mostly dried out in time for Sunday's final. The course was fast with quite a bit of pedaling required so a few opted for the trail bike rather than the DH rig.

The women were being bounced around on the uneven surfaces on the track, especially in the muck. Sarah Konefal (Laferté/Trou du Diable, Top) navigating the narrow section of rock and mud that was challenging to get into without sliding out.

Audrée Vaillancourt (Kona/Trees Mountain Apparel) didn't seem too phased by the track's conditions. She probably had a high score for practice laps amongst the women and it surely paid off for her. She finished in the top spot in the Women's Elite category!

Hugo Langevin (Cycles Perfomance) was riding hard all weekend. He had just returned from the two North American World Cups, qualifying for both! Definitely one to watch.

T-bar antics... Not sure if directly related to T-bar failure.

A Steak Well Done

Phil Ricard has been chomping at the heels of top podium spot all season long. There were mistakes made or other malfunctions that denied him the victory in past weekends. 'Philly Steak' finally put together an impressive time that had him in the hot seat until the last rider down, securing the number one spot at the end of the day!

The Lama Cycles race team had an extra rider in the pits over the weekend by the likes of team manager, Christophe Perrault. He decided after a two year hiatus that this race might suit his style and gave it a go. He got up to pace quite quickly, finishing off with a third place in the Expert category! The rest of the team had a successful weekend as well. Phil Ricard (mentioned above) was the fastest man down the hill on Sunday! He got that monkey off his back and is looking forward to the Quebec Champs race later next month. Lucas Rey-Sierro was very close to putting one in the bag in the Cadet/U17 class. He settled for a second spot but is looking to change all that before the end of the season. Liam Rourke pushed his bike all weekend long looking for extra seconds to knock off and some tricky lines to go with it. Unfortunately for him, he slid out during his race run costing him a potential spot somewhere on the podium.
