by Bikepark Leogang

Let the racing begin! In just a few days all eyes of the Bike-scene will be directed to Saalfelden Leogang. The UCI Mountain Bike & Trials World Championships is the MTB-event of the year. Concentrated action with about 30,000 expected spectators, exciting finals, big names, and big parties. This is what we can look forward to in the heart of the Salzburger Land.

Over 350 international journalists have already accredited their attendance in order to get to the ultimate spots of truth for MTB athletes. Between August 29th and September 9th, the new UCI world champions will be nominated in the disciplines of downhill, four-cross, cross-country, trials and for the first time also in cross-country eliminator. More than 750 pro athletes will give their best to try to get to the top of the podium. We will see the likes of Gwin, the Atherton's, Hart, and Absalon in Saalfelden Leogang, but also local heroes such as last year’s vice-world champion David Trummer from Austria, as well as the new Olympic Gold medalists Bresset and Kulhavy. All athletes can barely wait to face to the biggest challenge of the entire season.

What is there to even say about Aaron Gwin He found something this off season and it is paying off. AUDIO - GWIN

Real bike fans should take the opportunity to watch the events live on site, so not to miss any of the world class action. All trails and tracks, some of them completely rebuilt, some have been majorly reshaped, are fully equipped with speakers and four large projection screens. So no matter which event you are at, or where you are on the course you can follow all the action from start to finish.

Of course there will also be enough occasions to party. After the opening ceremony (which will be something for your eyes and ears), there is a diverse range of side events, which assures to keep everyone entertained. Here the most important:

Friday, August 31st: Ö3-Party with the „Jackson Eleven“-Combo in the event hall of the „Leoganger Bergbahnen“
Saturday, September 1st: Override Afterparty the Second with DJ Grandheight, on the area of the „Leoganger Bergbahnen“
Saturday, September 8th: BIKE Vibration feat. BUZZ Clubbing in the „Congress“ in Saalfelden

Let’s not forget, the Trials Nights: Both Trails World Championships finals will be at the same time big events and big parties. On Thursday night, September 6th and Friday night, September 7th the finals will take place in the city center of Saalfelden under flood lights, accompanied by DJ’s and hosts. Definitely another highlight you shouldn’t miss.

With a total 12 events on 12 days, the UCI World Championships will be held on a new, never before reached level, underlining the aspect of its spectator-friendly organization. Also a 12-day trip to Saalfelden Leogang will be very entertaining for every bike lover. Moreover most of the athletes should be highly motivated after the Olympic season, be it to keep their Olympic form, to go better than in London. In other cases the Worlds’ can be a platform for riders to become part of the world’s MTB elite. From a sporting point of view Saalfelden Leogang 2012 will be a milestone in the history of UCI events.

Learned from the difficulties of other major sporting events, the organizers have solved the problem of complete infrastructural excessive demand by establishing a deliberately user-friendly and understandable traffic management system. This gives quick and easy access to the competition areas. Also the common problem of struggle for parking should not be an issue in the hosting towns: In Leogang there are a total of 10 parking lots for cars as well as one big parking lot for buses - all in pedestrian walking distance to the worlds trails.

Saalfelden established one huge parking lot near the city center, moreover all public parking lots and all mall-parking lots can be used and all parking areas in Leogang and Saalfelden are available for free!
For the transfer from Saalfelden to Leogang and vice versa there will be a shuttle-service connecting both worlds spots. (also available for train-passengers. You can find the shuttle schedule at:
http://www.saalfeldenleogang2012.at/en/wm-info/gratis-bus-shuttle/

The organization committee, the UCI as well as all participating athletes are looking forward to the UCI Mountain Bike & Trials World Championships and hope to see a great turnout from the national and international MTB community!

Xc eliminator...would rather be raped by a rhino than watch it again. "Mountain biking's" ginger stepchild springs to mind.
  • + 2
HAHAHA, that comment made my night
  • - 5
I thought that eliminator was more interesting than the XCO itself... but well some fancy passive rhino butt sex Big Grin

Most of us on this site "look down" on the lycra boys, but in fact - they are fit athletes with great biking skills (you try ride some of their gnar with those silly bikes!)

XCE on the other hand has not redeeming qualities.

I just had to look up "cross country eliminator" on Wikipedia.

Honestly, it sounds like it may be cool as long as they throw some gnar into the course.

The UCI are so out of touch with the future of MTB, They should stick to the Tour de France and let the industry decide direction the of rainbow stripes. That old decrepit narrow minded guy who heads the UCI [don't even know or care what his name is} reminds me of Mr Burns from the Simpsons
  • + 1
they should just not do bikes at all from everybodys attitude towards them... its worse than the IOC making the road racers do the time trial, two different sports IOC!

For real man,I really hope he does,I mean,2nd to peaty at the worlds in 09,then 2nd to Sam overall the same year, then 2nd to gee in the overall the following year, just to be second again for two consecutive years behind gwin...must be frustrating...fingers crossed I hope this guy snatches it although im a sam hill fanboy...

I don't think he is racing, according to the dirt site anyway, but because he's a reserve he'll be riding the track in practise so that's why he's down.

A lot of my comments keep disapearing. But I still get notifications in my dashboard saying people have commented on it, so I'm very confused.

my god what is with the bashing on gwin, yeah he's a bit boring to watch but jeez the man is legendary. I hope he does win , but in the same breath i hope other riders will win, its just awesome watching the best rider win the biggest competiton - always stoked for who ever wins the champs.
does anyone kow if Hart is racing it or not?

If you cant take it then cover your sensative eyes. All the mtn riders i know have thick skin but i guess that not happening everywhere. If you cant take some jokes on a website then dont bother stopping by my trails. Maybe should start playing cricket instead.
  • + 5
 Go hump your sister dude
  • + 1
hahaha you cant take it that we cant take. that's awesome. so by that line of reasoning I say you sir cover YOUR eyes, which may or may not be as sensitive as ours (i think that would sound better with a british accent). yknow like when people call other people narcs and then say "you know who calls other people narcs? narcs."

It`s gwins race to lose, everyone elses to win.
  • - 2
am I missing something on Gwin? I thought he had an amazing season, nevertheless it should be an exciting race no matter who wins, I assume your rooting for lehikoinen?
  • + 6
I assume you're rooting for Smith.

UCI i think there's no need for a XCE world champion...

It's going to be Brian Lopes anyway. That guy is a beast

Danny the Hart attack pinball wizard will be missed...
  • + 9
"Danny the Hart attack pinball wizard" NO
  • - 6
 wat da hell was that?
  • + 14
 herpderp.

I'll speak non-internetese: I'm going to miss the fact that Danny Hart (lovingly referred to as "Pinball Wizard" on other places on the world wide web) won't be able to compete because of his coming shoulder surgery. It would be great if he could race to defend the rainbow stripes he got last year in what was arguably the most amazing downhill run documented on film to this day. Thank you, and if I don't see you, good morning, good evening and good night...
  • + 2
Don't want to see his ugly face anyway :L
