When Spank hit Crankworx Whistler they did it in a big way. It was nearly impossible to attend the festival without seeing a Spank flag, contest or rider. Whether it's a podium finish or their continued support of arguably one of the coolest events; the World Whip Off Championships, Spank certainly left their mark.

I ride spank bar, stem, pedals and rims. No problems in 2 years of Whistler and The Shore

I have the spank spike race 28's, for my canfield jedi 27.5 and currently loving them. @MOLDTRUTH

Looking to get the Spank Spike 33 rims on Hope Pro 4 hubs...Any input would be nice. Keep seeing things about them denting, but, hey, they're rims and rims are subject to some damage

When are the new race 33's coming out??

Spank make some ok stuff. I ran their 28 rims for a while. They do ding easily and can start to fold and flat spot badly when they do. The sleeve interface will come apart if you are hard on wheels, but being a sleeve you know it is not just going to snap on you 1 day like a weld (done this to 721 rims more than once). The centre bulge can make getting certain tyres on and off harder. Final downside is that they do buckle easier than other rims due shape and being so soft. They are not a bad rim, they are light, the nipple holes don't just crack like other light offerings, but come at a premium price, just for the price there are better offerings out there. Currently using panceti DL3 rims as they premium but can be picked up at near budget prices just now. Heavier, have eyelets, ding but don't fold, are wider, stay pretty true, you need to pump your tyres up to 60psi to seat them (conti kaiser and dhr2)... will see what they are like long term. Nothing lasts forever.

Funny you say that because I replaced my Flows with Spike 28s and found them to be very hard and very strong. I can't imagine how a rim could be stronger at that weight honestly. I wouldn't call Spank a premium price either. How about Enve or even Mavic?

I don't even count carbon rims. Sorry. Always just count what normal riders would buy, where spank is a premium rim. The ztr rim does not ding as easily due to the low tyre bead interface, does not fold under a heavy ding. But the spank rim does not crack at the eyelets like a ztr.

Not the experience I have had. The Flows are Soft with a capital S.

Spank arguably makes some of the best products on the market. Their combination of price, performance and appearance is awesome. Can't recommend them highly enough whether it's wheels, cockpit components, pedals, etc they are my go to brand. Go Gravity Cartel!

Sure they make great stuff but they need some adults in their Marketing department. Spank Oozy, yuk! Is this company owned by a 16 year old?

I've been a set of their older bars but I've heard they're fine now. Their wheels are great for sure though.

I've dented 2 rims, broken one and broke a pair of spank pedals.... cool colors but not very durable....

Please, I would like to find a rim that doesn't dent. I've tried Wtb, Stans, Mavic, DT swiss, Sun Ringle, and at proper pressures. I've dented them all. I've also destroyed them all. Rims are disposable.

sounds like you should try carbon.. will save you from having to get wheels rebuilt so often
  • 1 0
As a shop mechanic, I've seen more destroyed carbon rims than I have alloy ones. I can pick up an alloy rim for $40 vs a carbon one for $300+. Given that I build them myself, I'd rather stick with alloy and build an extra wheelset and still walk away with extra cash in hand. Plus, carbon is stiff, and a harsh ride. Ever wonder why team riders that have carbon rims available to run, teams supported by DtSwiss for example, still run alloy rims?

Spank bars, the spike 777 sucks... I broke two this year. But i gonna buy a third one because they cheap and stylish !

Try the Spike Race 800 or the Spike 777 Bearclaw, they are very strong.

Good to hear, I just bought the Race 800
