Snow had fallen two days prior yet the forecast was clear, no one knew if it would stay that way. The third annual Cannonball MTB Festival was underway, and with it came the best riders Australia (and America) has to offer. It was set to be huge. Arriving on Thursday evening gave us some time to set up the tent and check out the dual compressor course. Narrow and fast. The only opportunity you had to make the win was in the first corner - whoever had the lead from there, won 99% of the time.

Pumptrack ChallengeIn the evening came the Pumptrack Challenge. One lap for juniors, two laps for elite, no pedalling, the fastest time would win - it's as simple as that. Freshly built and finished the day prior to the event, DirtArt did a brilliant job executing a style not yet seen in Australia.

Whip OffThe brief for the day was to have five well-executed whips as sideways as possible, but also bringing them back as late as possible. Josh Clark, Jake Newell, Duke Millington and Harry Alford were all filling the expectations but didn't look the best in the eyes of the judges. Going for some cash the riders pulled out some free ride moves - Jake with the nacs and Duke with a failed first attempt at a backflip, landing cleanly on his second attempt.
Australian Open DownhillOne of Australia's longest and oldest downhill trails, winding its way down the ski slopes into the Thredbo Valley. At 3.3 kilometres long, it is constantly full on with rock gardens and braking bumps including 'Snakes and ladders'. One run to take it all.
