With a career in mountain biking which lasted more than 20 years and a long string of World Cup and World Championship wins on his side, José Antonio Hermida is one of the living legends of mountain biking.

We have looked back at his career and have put together this moving tribute to one of the nicest and funniest (not to mention fastest) men in mountain biking. As one of the most versatile riders in the World Cup, who always appeared to be in a good mood, who was always fun to watch – off and on the bike – and who inspired this fellow competitors as well as his teammates, José has provided plenty of material for the tribute video.

Summarizing the comments and sentiment of the racers, organisers, and key people in the world of World Cup racing, José’s absence will be missed but the fond memories of his racing style, his personally and his character will remain in the scene for years to come.

Fabian Aust says "He is not the typical spaniard lying on the beach bla, bla, bla, mañana, mañana". What do you think Spain is Fabian? Those horrible places where many of your comptariots go for cheap holidays? Didn't you learn any further after sharing so many years your work with a "spaniard"? What if I use also clichés for your homecountry...? No, some of my best friends are germans and I have culture and I respect other people and their cultures. That is something you have to learn when you are a kid, too late for you Fabian. How can you say that in a public video where you are promoting a brand? I claim your for apologize just now.

Maybe Fabian is not the typical German that came to Mallorca for drinking cheap beer and jumping drunk from a 6th floor hotel room to the pool... and maybe he could visit Spain more often with Hermida and Merida Spain, so they can show him another postcard he didn't saw yet... tough work paid less than 2.5 euros/hour, so they cannot afford to buy german cars, that could help to put him into perspective...  Hey there, you are right, my statement was inappropriate and I am sorry for that. I never ment to insult anyone or promote any stereotypes. I wanted to stress out that José is a very structured person and choose the wrong words. The statement was not scripted and we shot it in one take. I will have to do more thinking before I speak next time. my apologies."

@fabianaust: I really appreciate your words Fabian. Is smart to apologize and regret your words. Despite I can understand it's a misunderstanding, this days we have to be very careful with this kind of statements in public media... As we say in Spain "El horno no está para bollos" (Litteraly: The oven isn't ready for cakes).
Lets put this aside and talk about MTB which is what we like.
Wish you all happy trails, specially to "El Jefe" Hermida!!!
